2018-07-01: Brewers (Peralta) at Reds (Harvey) 12:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 8-2]

Eye Black
Coming in to today Cubs have walked 60 more times and struck out 70 fewer times as a team. Team on base .350 vs. .318. This is a trend that is unsustainable for the Brewers to hold them off. Something has to be done through strategy or personnel upgrade. The pitching will not be as good in the second half as it has been. Brewers have to be realistic and do something or else this will be another wasted first half.

Or else you could say that this team has been ravaged by injuries in the first half, and only Aguilar and Hader have played over their heads. Shaw, Braun, Santana and Arcia have under-performed. Nothing really points to the record being unsustainable.

Ravaged?? Everybody has injuries. I wouldn't say they have any more than the fair share as I no longer count Braun because he is always hurt. Bryant is out now and Cubs still rolling and he is better than anybody Brewers have had out. Darvish has been out all year. Like I said something needs to be done via approach or whatever. They will not the division status quo.

Probably best if this thing ends up getting called early and our pen gets the day off. I have zero confidence in getting 4 runs in 3+ innings from this offense.

From the man that got after me for just wanting a hit the other night, this was hard to read. Lots of game left.

Wilkerson can take several innings, and Harvey will be out. Let’s keep playing.

Pen is in really rough shape right now and we play 21 games in 20 days with none off until the AS break. 'The other night' we were down 1 run, not 3, at home, and still had a healthy Cain and Yelich.

Just saying to get the entire day off for the pen in this brutal long stretch for a game we have probably a 10% chance of winning at the moment, would not be the worst thing in the world.

Wilkerson could finish this game if we never sniff competing in it otherwise Hader, Jeffress and Knebel are all fresh if we do.

Shaw? Dude has a .814 OPS this season (on a career OPS of .803). How is that under-performing?

You guys really have to stop checking in on the Cubs and letting it bother you. It’s July and yes, they are a better ball club than we are. Begin to deal with that a bit.

BTW the cubs continue to mash the twins

It’s too bad the Brewers didn’t get to face Lance Lynn, but decent consolation prizs are the Twins’ bullpen getting beaten up again (due to his 1+ inning start) and the Brewers not being the ones to sign Lynn.

I think most of us were expecting him to resume his first half of last year. Which I think eventually may happen. Aside from the obvious injury, he just seems to be in a sophomore slump (I get that he wasn't a rookie last year). He's looked Arcia-ish for much of the year. Just uncomfortable. But yeah, it doesn't help that everybody aside from Aguilar has really under performed all year.
