Ray is on one of his heaters - another home run today. 3 in his last 4 games now.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Sunday's Wisconsin Home Game with Clinton Rained Out

The teams will have to make up the game as part of a doubleheader in Clinton on one of Wisconsin's two visits to Ashford University Field in August.

Seems like weather has really wrecked havoc with the locally televised games.

Can't be fun for the club to lose the Sunday home gate, either.

Game Will Resume At 5:35 PM Monday With A Seven-Inning Game To Follow

By Garrett Greene

Game suspended during the bottom of the 5th, right after Corey Ray hit his 12th home run of the season, a 2 out 2 run shot to right center to tie the game at 2 apiece. Hopefully the Shuckers snap the skid when the game concludes. Also, hopefully we'll see Hiura appear in the lineup.

Final: Helena 5, Great Falls 4

Sunitsch Shines As Brewers Salvage Series

Lefty Goes Six Strong For First Career Win

By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

cut.jpg

Great Falls, MT - In need of a win to avoid getting swept, the Brewers turned to Scott Sunitsch on Sunday against the Voyagers. The lefty did not disappoint, as he went a career long six innings, allowing just three runs on three hits, needing just 63 pitches to get through the outing. Helena's offense scored in four consecutive innings, and Aaron Ashby held off a ninth inning Voyagers rally as the Brewers edged Great Falls 5-4. The Brewers now trail the Voyagers by just a game in the Northern division.

Helena struck first in the second, but it did not come without controversy. Je'Von Ward singled with one out, and with Jose Sibrian up with a 2-1 count, Sibrian appeared to have fouled a pitch in and out of the glove of catcher Jhoandro Alfaro. Ward had stolen second on the swing, and was told to go back to first. However, after a conference between the umpires, it was determined that Sibrian did not make contact, and Ward was awarded second base. Two pitches later, Sibrian singled sharply to right, scoring Ward to give Helena the lead.

Helena added on a second run in the third, as a leadoff double from Jesus Lujano scored thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Yeison Coca and a sacrifice fly from Jean Carmona.

Sunitsch held Great Falls off the board in the first two innings, but the Voyagers put the first four on against him in the third, scoring three to take a 3-2 lead. Ramon Beltre brought home the first run with a double, and Lenyn Sosa then gave the Voyagers the lead with a two run single.

The Brewers tied the game immediately in the fourth, as Je'Von Ward hit a solo homer against starter Chris Comito (L, 0-1) with one out. In the fifth inning, LG Castillo whacked a leadoff triple, and scored on a Lujano single, putting the Brewers back in from. Chad McClanahan then added on an insurance run with a two run single.

After the third, Sunitsch was on cruise control, as he retired the side in order in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. The only hits he allowed all game came in the third inning.

Aaron Ashby entered for the seventh and pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings. In the ninth, he struck put Logan Sowers to begin the inning, but a dropped third strike allowed him to reach. A wild pitch moved him to second, and with one out Alex Destino singled him home, making it a one run game and putting the tying run on base. Ashby plunked Ryan Fitzpatrick to move the tying run into scoring position, but then struck out Jimmy Galusky and Jhoandro Alfaro to end the game and leave the winning run at first. He gave up just the one run in three innings, earning the save.

The Brewers return home for a two game series against Great Falls, beginning tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Max Lazar goes for Helena, while Great Falls counters with Codi Heuer.

Your only online home for the Sky Sox road game --

SKY SOX HIT SLEW OF HOMERS IN THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

ROUND ROCK, Tex. – After a tight extra-inning game Saturday night, the Sky Sox ran away with game three with a 7-2 victory on the back of five homers, including a pair from All-Star Nate Orf.

In the top of the first inning, Orf hit what would be the first of many Sky Sox home runs to give Colorado Springs an early 1-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the first inning, Scott Heineman blasted a solo homer for the home team to tie the game.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Express took their first and only lead of the night. Drew Robinson drew a one-out walk, coming home on a Heineman triple for Heineman's second RBI of the night to give Round Rock a 2-1 lead.

In the next half-frame, in the top of the fourth, the Sky Sox offense exploded. Orf hit a double, followed by a Domingo Santana single to score Orf and tie the game. Jacob Nottingham then hit a two-run shot to clear the bases, followed immediately by a Christian Bethancourt home run on the next pitch to make it 5-2.

In the next inning, Orf homered again for his second longball of the night and sixth of the season to make it a 6-2 affair.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Sky Sox added to their lead in the seventh. With one out on the board and no one on, Tyrone Taylor hit the Sky Sox' fifth and final homer of the night to extend Colorado Springs' lead to 7-2, which would prove to be the final score of the night, with the Sky Sox winning their third straight game over the Express in Round Rock.

The Sky Sox are on the road in the midst of a five-game set against the Express in Round Rock, before returning home on Independence Day to host the New Orleans Baby Cakes for five games.

Monday's Preview: In game four, the Sky Sox are sending righty Brandon Woodruff to the mound to square off against Round Rock's righty Adrian Sampson. Woodruff is looking for his third win whereas Sampson is looking for his fourth.

Orf Orf Orf: The two home run game by Nate Orf Sunday night marks the second time that Orf has homered twice in a game in a Sky Sox uniform. The other instance came almost one year ago, on July 2nd, 2017 at Werner Park in Omaha. The three runs through the fifth gave him 204 regular season runs scored, jumping over Matt Miller and Jason Bates into sole possession of 8th place in career runs scored (regular season) in a Sky Sox uniform. The double in the Sunday contest was his 69th regular season double with the Sky Sox, tying him with Edgard Velasquez Clemente for 13th all time in doubles. The ten total bases through the fifth gave him 469 total bases, jumping over Derrick Gibson and Eric Young, Jr. for 19th place in career total bases (regular season). The three extra base hits by Orf through the fifth inning gave him 103 extra base hits in his Sky Sox career, tying him with Jayson Nix for 21st on the career extra base hits list. The single by Nate Orf in the 9th inning, his 4th hit of the night, gave him 316 regular season hits in his career with the Sky Sox, tying him with Tim Wheeler for 16th place on the Sky Sox career hits list. (Next up in 15th: Jim Tatum, with 318 regular season hits.)

Quintin Two-rentino: Sunday marked the first time that the Sky Sox had two Quintin's on the same roster at the same time (Quintin Berry and Quintin Torres-Costa). The only other "Quintin" to play for the Sky Sox was Quinton McCracken, who played for the Sky Sox in 1995.

Doubling Up: The back-to-back homers by Jacob Nottingham and Christian Bethancourt in the fourth inning Sunday night marked only the second time that the Sky Sox have hit back-to-back homers against Round Rock pitching. The only other instance came nearly three years ago, on July 7th, 2014 at the Dell Diamond, when Carlos Gonzalez and Ben Paulsen hit back-to-back homers in the 5th inning against Round Rock pitcher Justin Germano. Sky Sox won that game, 6-4.

Bombs on Bombs on Bombs on...: The five home runs Sunday night in Round Rock by the Sky Sox marks the ninth time in franchise history (and the first time at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock) for the Sky Sox to belt five home runs in a road game. The last instance, nearly one year ago in Omaha, July 2nd, 2017 when the Sky Sox belted six homers at Werner Park in Omaha, en route to an 11-0 win over the Storm Chasers. (The six homers: Two by Nate Orf, and one each by Andrew Susac, Jett Bandy, Lewis Brinson, and Brett Phillips.)

More Steals: Recently named PCL All-Star Nate Orf and fellow infielder Jake Hager stole the team's league-leading 112th and 113th bags against Round Rock in game two at Dell Diamond. Orf has 19 total on the season while Hager marked his first stolen bag of the season with the Sky Sox.

Final: AZL Indians2 4, AZL Brewers 1

AZL Brewers Box Score

The Brewers score exactly 1 run for the 4th consecutive game as the team's offensive tailspin continues. 2B Jess Williams and SS Luis Avila each had two singles, while DH Micah Bello and 3B Aaron Familia each added a double.

Jess Williams has been downgraded from 6'4 to 5'11 according to his milb.com player page. Slight adjustment.

Starter Cam Robinson battled his command in the first inning, walking two and allowing two doubles. Without any offensive support, that's all he'd need to give up to be tagged for his first professional loss. Robinson recovered pretty nicely after that, though, allowing only an unearned run over the next 3 innings. Joel Pinto allowed one run in 3 innings of relief and Jesus Brea ran his season-opening scoreless streak to 5.1 innings.
