With injury issues solved, former UVa star Kirby finally pitching again

Aaron McFarling, Roanoke (VA) Times

Kirby has not pitched since June 13th, but the Mudcats have played a man short as Kirby has remained on the active roster throughout. All seems well enough, otherwise, however. Brewers being "cautious with his recovery".

Clinton Goes Deep to Beat Rattlers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Other than Zach Clark's bomb, this video package is understandably for LumberKing fans...Star Wars jersey fans, too, I guess.

AUDIO via the Timber Rattlers Soundcloud: "It was Star Wars Night tonight and The Empire won. Clinton hit three home runs and beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8–1. In the Papa John's Pizza Postgame Podcast, Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner discuss the game and have audio from Zach Clark, Tyler Saladino, and Matt Erickson. Plus, Kyle decides to a Duel of the Fates with a blizzard of puns at the end of the podcast is a good way to end the night."

Box Score / Game Log

Well, no walks from the pitchers at least.

After a bunch of promotions to Carolina, the remaining box score batting averages aren't pretty, at least as of now, and it's deep enough into the season that those averages will not increase dramatically, not quickly, anyway.

NOTTINGHAM'S CLUTCH BAT LEADS TO EXTRA-INNING WIN OVER EXPRESS

I do believe Jacob has a chance to be a six-year starter in a big-league Brewer uniform. Very glad Athletics fans have enjoyed all the Khris Davis bombs, rooting for them to somehow catch the Mariners in the wild card.

Plenty of detail in the Sky Sox recap linked above.

Box Score / Game Log

Domingo Santana has exactly one base hit in each of his five Sky Sox games thus far: 5-for-19, double, triple, three walks, seven K's.

Nate Orf on base three times -- .406 OBP in 2018.

Pro debuts for 2nd rounder CF Joe Gray (1-3, 2B, BB), 9th rounder RF Arbert Cipion (0-4), and 37th rounder RHP Franklin Hernandez (1 IP, 1 H). Multihit games came from Avalo and 2B Luis Avila.

5th round pick Justin Jarvis made his second pro appearance and first career start, throwing 3 innings of hitless ball, giving up just a walk while striking out three.

AZL Brewers Game Log
