Sort of having a 'feeling bad for Zagurski as a human being' moment right now. I'm sure worked his butt off for years to make it again. Probably thought he would never make it back after 5 years at age 35 and he made it and it goes like that. I'm sure he knows it's all over now.

Yeah I had that feeling during the game even. As much as I want him to go away now, it is a bit defeating for a guy to have this happen to him. It’s too bad Thames didn’t help him out, who knows what happens after that.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I don't know what people expected Counsell to do today. He was hamstrung with the what he had to work with today. Chacin was done after five. He struggled that last inning and he was obviously getting fatigued. Hader and Jeffress were unavailable. Jennings just plain stinks right now. CC went to the best option in Williams whom was the key to getting to the late innigs with a lead and he failed miserably. The writing was on the wall after that. I criticize CC with his management of the pitching staff quite a bit, but today is not one of those days.

Step away from the ledge.

Every time I see a post/ comment like this, my mind flashes back to the scene in "America's Sweethearts" when Hank Azaria is standing on the ground, looking up and saying "Jump sissyboy, jump!"

little he could have done. Heat index was 100 degrees. Cincy pitcher was still strong but other than maybe Anderson, our pitchers are running out of gas in the 5th inning.

I mean if Counsell pitches Chacin in the 6th, we get drilled anyways like Sutter in the 6th last time. Sutter, chacin, grurra all give us 5 solid innings and thats it.

I forgot about Peralta. He is the only one with a fresh arm that has duration.

Stearns needs an ace. Defrom got cornholed today and looked aweful but he is who we need.

So I went to a movie tonight with my wife. Before the lights dimmed, I had the game up in an app. I turned it off with the Brewers up 3-2 and Zagurski coming in.

I joked to my wife, "I don't trust a dude named Mike Zagurski. 'Hi, I'm Mike Zagurski and I'll be your substitute pitcher for today."

I know of what I speak.

Cubs are beasting and we are throwing guys out there that are not ready for prime time. Cut Sogard and get Houser back up here fast. Hope Freddy is ready to go 7 tomorrow.

That "beasting" team is 6-8 in the last two weeks.

You know the movie, but you didn't see the game.

He should of K'd Votto, according to K-Zone, and Thames should have caught the ball. Then the ledge Brewer fan would be praising him as our next Loogy.... figures.

Cubs are far from beasting - they just got swept by this same Reds team last weekend over four games, and they are having to win slugfests because their pitching is on fumes. Wrigley plays like a softball field when it's hot and the wind blows out, that's why you see the huge run totals over the past few games.

I could actually see why they brought Zagurski up. Mid-90s velocity on his FB, with a serviceable breaking ball. It looked like he (or the coaching staff) weren't as confident in his breakkaball, since he barely threw it. If he's strictly a FB machine, with a pretty straight FB, he probably won't last. But if he can mix in the breakkaball, he could fill a LOOGY role for at least a while.

It's not like he was awful today, more unlucky. That doesn't mean he's an awesome player -- but for me, his outing today isn't enough to send him back down. He doesn't look the part of an athlete, but he can fling it.

Pretty much my thoughts, as well...

Which is why even having Zagurski on the roster was incredibly stupid. Who would have thought having a 7+ career ERA 35 year old who hasn't pitched in 5 year would be a bad idea?

Just a 'cute' move attempt and now huge egg in the face. I'd be quite annoyed if I'm Houser or Lopez.

I kinda felt bad for Zagurski being asked to pitch to Votto in that situation. We were really shorthanded and we beat this team, what, 7 times in a row? We were bound to drop one to them if you go by the law of averages.

Houser or Lopez should be pleased that Zagurski struggled - it increased their chances of getting called up.

That home plate ump yesterday with the floating strike zone didn't do Zagurski any favors either. That one pitch that he called ball 3 was actually a pitch he called a strike before Votto's at bat and after. :tongue
