Biloxi Box Score

Biloxi Game Log

Biloxi writers as of yet not forthcoming with the game write up. Hopefully the article sheds some light on how Shuckers pitching coach David Chavarria managed to get tossed from the game in the middle of Biloxi's 9th inning rally. Biloxi scored 3 to tie it up, but in the bottom of the 9th, Lookouts 2b Alex Perez reached on a 1 out single, and then was able to tag and advance to 2nd on a flyout to CF Troy Stokes Jr. That would prove costly as the Lookouts came up with a walk off single to snap Biloxi's 4 game winning streak.

Summary article link will be added in the morning.

Not sure about the circumstances, but you'll see a flash of a serious finger in the face of the umpire in this video report from Chattanooga.

Here's the recap from the Tuesday matinee --

LOOKOUTS WALK OFF SHUCKERS IN SERIES FINALE

Biloxi Rally In The Ninth Spoiled By Paul

CHATTANOOGA, TN – After scoring three runs in the top of the ninth, the Biloxi Shuckers (45-31) lost on a walk-off single by Chris Paul to the Chattanooga Lookouts (38-37) 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at AT&T Field.

Chattanooga tallied the first run of the game in the third. Alex Perez singled with two outs and scored on a Jimmy Kerrigan double, putting the Lookouts up 1-0. Biloxi responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth after Keston Hiura doubled, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Erceg. Hiura has now hit safely in his last seven games with Biloxi.

RHP Trey Supak turned in another good outing but departed the game in the sixth after allowing a pair of singles. Mitchell Kranson drove in a run for Chattanooga with a single before a walk to Jaylin Davis loaded the bases. Ryan Walker was hit by a pitch from RHP Jon Perrin, forcing in a run to make it 3-1 Lookouts. Chattanooga tacked on an extra run in the eighth on a fielder’s choice by Walker to stretch their advantage to 4-1.

With two outs in the ninth, the Shuckers rallied for three runs against RHP Todd Van Steensel (BS, 5). Blake Allemand and Luis Aviles Jr. each walked, and Clint Coulter drove in a run with a single to left. Max McDowell singled the opposite way in the ensuing at bat, plating Aviles Jr. to bring the Shuckers within a run. Troy Stokes Jr. delivered the tying run for Biloxi, dropping a single into left field that evened the game at four all. LHP Paco Rodriguez (W, 2) halted the Shuckers rally with a groundball out from Trent Grisham.

In the bottom of the ninth, Perez singled with one out, putting the winning run on base. RHP Miguel Sanchez (L, 1) forced a fly out to center by Jimmy Kerrigan before intentionally walking Brent Rooker. Chris Paul stepped to the plate and pounced on the first pitch, lining it into left field and sending home Perez to finish the game.

Final: Missoula 2, Helena 0

Helena Blanked For Second Time In Five Games

Brewers Manage Just Three Hits In Loss

By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

cut.jpg

Helena, MT - The Helena Brewers offense came back to life last night with a game defining three run fifth inning, but fell flat tonight against the Missoula Osprey, falling 2-0. Helena's offense managed just three hits, as the Osprey bullpen retired the final ten Brewers they faced. With the loss, the Brewers (6-5) now fall 1.5 games back of Missoula (7-3) in the division.

The only scoring in the ballgame came in the top of the first. Helena starter Aaron Ashby (L, 0-1) issued a one out walk to Cesar Garcia, and walked Zack Shannon with two outs. Zac Almond singled to right, scoring Garcia, and a bobble from right fielder LG Castillo allowed Shannon to score.

Missoula starter Pedro Zorrilla (W,1-1) allowed a leadoff single in the first to Yeison Coca, but then retired the next six he faced. Je'Von Ward began the third with a sharp single to left, but Jose Sibrian immediately erased Ward by hitting into a double play. Zorrilla didn't allow another hit in the game, finishing his five scoreless innings with no walks and three strikeouts.

Ashby exited in the second inning with the bases loaded for Scott Sunitsch, who got Buddy Kennedy to fly out to center to end the inning. Sunitsch, Austin Rubick, and Jenri Montas combined to pitch 7.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and despite issuing nine walks as a staff, the only two runs to score came in that first inning. Missoula stranded 12 runners on base and went 1-10 with runners in scoring position.

The effort was for naught, as Missoula's bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to complete the shutout. Bryan Menendez got the final three outs for his first career save.

Helena looks to split the four game series tomorrow with first pitch at 7:05 PM. Max Lazar makes his third start of the season, seeking his second win. Marcos Tineo takes the ball for Missoula.

Helena Box Score

First off, Greg Mroz has been outstanding for Helena this season in what must be a tough assignment as he begins his first and final year of Helena Brewers broadcasting. Not only for the radio broadcasts and game write-ups, but the other little bits of media the team puts out, such as his pitching preview videos you can see on Twitter. Like this one from yesterday. Hopefully, this leads to a full-time gig elsewhere next season, or at least with wherever the Brewers' advanced rookie affiliate is next year. He's a good one.

As I mentioned yesterday, after starting out like a ball of fire, the H-Crew's offensive output has fallen off significantly over the past week. Hopefully, the league's youngest offense can bounce back for today's game.

4th round pick Aaron Ashby has had a tough start to his pro career. Command was the bugaboo holding him back from being a higher draft pick, and he's issued 5 walks in 2.1 innings. That said, we can't make any judgments on 7 outs. Incidentally, his milb.com page lists him as the son of Andy Ashby - he's actually Andy's nephew.

Props though to Scotty Sunitsch, Austin Rubick, and Jenri Montas for keeping the Osprey offense at bay for the final 7.1 innings.

Helena Game Log

All the offense Missoula would need, and both runs scored with two outs:

Missoula Top of the 1st

Jesus Marriaga grounds out, second baseman Yeison Coca to first baseman Chad McClanahan.

Cesar Garcia walks.

Buddy Kennedy flies out to center fielder Pablo Abreu.

With Zack Shannon batting, Cesar Garcia steals (2) 2nd base.

Zack Shannon walks.

With Zachery Almond batting, Cesar Garcia advances to 3rd on a balk. Zack Shannon advances to 2nd on a balk.

Zachery Almond singles on a line drive to right fielder Leugim Castillo. Cesar Garcia scores. Zack Shannon scores. Fielding error by right fielder Leugim Castillo.

Zachary Jones called out on strikes.

Final: AZL Brewers 3, AZL Padres1 0

AZL Brewers Box Score

Two runs in the bottom of the first were all the baby Brewers needed as Freisis Adames, Michele Vassalotti, and Jesus Brea combined on a 3 hit shutout. While none of the three were dominating by any stretch (Vassalotti issued a career-high 3 walks), effective is effective.

2B Edwin Sano once again lead the way on offense with 2 hits, a HBP, and 2 stolen bases. There is a universe where he swaps places with Yeison Coca in Helena next month. 3B Jess Williams, who along with Sano and Micah Bello are the guys I mention most often in these write-ups, had a double for the Brewers' lone extra-base hit. He has a 1.069 OPS in his first 28 plate appearances as a pro. Nice.

AZL Brewers Game Log

The two runs could have been more, not that more was needed:

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 1st

Edwin Sano singles on a ground ball to right fielder Agustin Ruiz.

Jesse Williams doubles (4) on a fly ball to left fielder Tyler Benson. Edwin Sano to 3rd.

Alex Hall singles on a line drive to right fielder Agustin Ruiz. Edwin Sano scores. Jesse Williams to 3rd.

Aaron Familia grounds into a double play, pitcher Frank Lopez to shortstop Xavier Edwards to first baseman Lee Solomon. Jesse Williams scores. Alex Hall out at 2nd.

Anderson Melendez hit by pitch.

Francis Florentino grounds into a force out, shortstop Xavier Edwards to second baseman Jarryd Dale. Anderson Melendez out at 2nd.
