2018-06-26: Royals (Junis) at Brewers (Peralta) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 5-1; Peralta home debut - 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K]

One thing I have noticed with Peralta is that he has avoided having poor control when he is behind in the count. Typically when a ball gets away from him (a fastball mostly) it is in a count where it isn’t costly. Usually it is way out of the zone too when he misses.

That in my opinion is what has made him so dominant and looking like an ace. He locates when he needs to. Is that just dumb luck over 4 measly starts? Quite possibly...he better keep starting to find out though.

Who needs to trade for a starting pitcher and give up prospects when you have phenoms like Peralta and also Corbin Burnes in AAA. What a performance. And if you tell me Burnes has struggled in AAA then go look at Josh Hader’s stats in Colorado Springs and get back to me.

In Peralta’s 3 scoreless start you could see how good he started and I was worried he would get tired or lose his control and the wheels would fall off but that moment never came in any of those games and he only got better as time went on. He did bad vs Minnesota but who cares 3 out of 4 starts scoreless ain’t too shabby.

Peralta continues to amaze. Same goes for Aguilar.

Always nice to get a W, but typical no show from the bottom of the lineup again. Spots 6 through 9 in the lineup combine to go 0-15. Villar has tumbled to a sub .700 OPS, again. Need to make some move(s) to upgrade C, 2B, or SS in the next month, IMO.

Guys! Just got online and missed the game unfortunately. And holy awesome to see what Peralta did!! How neat would it be to see him do a Cal Eldred 1992 Esque performance for us ? My goodness that would be a boost if he’s anything like he was today!

Nice to see Miller with a couple walks and a hit tonight, and Braun to hit one out!

This is true. Good signs out of Miller so far. Focus on C if you ask me.

1 - Not much more you can say about Freddy. It's a bummer he's going to have to be on an innings limit but we'd be wise to benefit from all the innings he has left to give up here.

2 - Good to see that the world kept turning after a near full game of Brad Miller at SS.

3 - I like Braun/Yelich/Thames with Aguilar at 1st in the absence of Cain. Bummer not having Cain but the depth certainly helps here.

4 - Hader had I think 34 straight appearances with a K, 15 short of Chapman's record of 49. Given how he's usually used I think he could have gotten it. I totally understand you can't manage a game for records but kind of a bummer seeing it end that way.

Miller can handle short.

The Crew has a 40-man spot open for Hiura.

Problem solved, short-term.

I was at the game and some general observations.

Peralta initially was working more fastball heavy but ended up throwing a ton of curves...especially to Perez. It was comical how far in front of the curve they were, either they read a scouting report that said he threw 90% fastballs...or they couldn't pick up the spin out of his hand. Either way, it was pretty clear hitters were generally cheating on the fastball.

Miller didn't have a single challenging play all game, and his bat so far is better than expected. If he keeps playing at SS, he will inevitably get some tough chances and we'll see how he handles those. Maybe part of the reasoning for putting him in today was Peralta pitching...a high K and generally fly ball pitcher. You wouldn't want him in there with Chacin starting.

Other hitters, Braun's approach is very good right now. Much better than early in the season. I would guess he'll be over 800 ops on the season by end of July. I found it a bit comical that the KC LF was playing 2-3 steps in for Yelich, considering he hit an oppo hr that game and 2 in the last 3 games. I really like Braun 2 and Yelich 3 with Cain out of the lineup. Even if Shaw gets back in there, a lineup of Thames, Braun, Yelich, Shaw, Aguilar in the top 5 is very good. That said, it was pretty clear yesterday that the bottom part of the lineup is very weak. Villar/Pina were minimally productive against very mediocre pitching. By the 3rd time through, I felt like paying attention to the bottom 3 hitters was a waste of time. Nothing good could happen until the top of the order came up. We'll have to remedy that.
