we are the best team in the division and im almost certain that we will make the playoffs, so I dont get all worried about how awful we look when things fall apart.

When we lose, our weaknesses are glaring. We have zero infield depth, low caliber bats at ss and 2nd that haunt us, and our starting pitching doesnt have anything close to an ace.

The outfield, power, and BP are solid and will sustain us, and due to NL parity....maybe to the WS.

But, Stearns will definately secure at least 1 weakness. He has to because we are ahead of our time. The real question will be if he secures 2 of our weaknesses.

But in my mind, im almost certain he has to nab an ace, because the AL teams are so much better than our NL level now.

Sogard could go 12-20 with three homers next week and still be the worst player in the major leagues overall.

Eric Sogard is 100% a product of the "good old boy" system. Someone high up with some clout in the organization loves the guy and wants him here badly. Stearns? Counsell? Mark A? Someone else? I have no idea, but someone.

Because of that they're giving him every possible chance to stick here. Boone Logan had no such relationship in the organization, Sogard does. Remember, as a veteran, Sogard didn't have to accept a minor league assignment. So I'm guessing he was talked to and told, "Look, we've got to make this move right now. We have to. But it's just temporary. The first chance we have, first injury, we are getting you back up here."

And they did. Remember, Sogard did absolutely nothing in Colorado Springs to earn a trip back up. He continued to stink it up there.

That's not to say Sogard is untouchable. He's not. It's still a business, and at some point you can't dodge the tough decision any longer. But he's been given a tremendously longer leash than he would be given anywhere else. What do you think the odds are that if the Cubs had signed Sogard to a 1 year, $2.4M deal, that he would still be on their 25 man right now?

**** This is all, obviously, and hopefully this goes without saying, my opinion and take, and can't be proven or disproven.

I don’t believe you’re wrong in anything you just stated.

Im resigned to believe that Sogard is staying. To be sure, he shouldnt even be getting MLB at bats if he played for the chicago white sox.

So either 2 things are possible.

1. he has something over the ownership or Counsell or he is playing because of the same reason why this organization has never won a world series and almost never goes to the playoffs.

my hope is that he is just keeping the seat warm for a great player. Something gotta give. We see it plainly, but Counsell gives him key outs still.

It comes off as a little too much of a tinfoil hat take for my liking, but at the same time I don't find it outlandish at all

Fortunately, once Saladino comes back, I don't see how they can justify it any longer. It's not even justifiable now with Miller here. It would be nice if Arcia started to hit a little bit to make it less of a decision.

If we lose this game by one run again, CC will have alot to answer for.

No, he won't...

Does anyone really think we are scoring 9+ runs today?

No, what I meant was, he will not have to answer for anything. His post game interviews are just plain vanilla. They don't ask him the tough questions.

Not sure if I should be disappointed we couldn't take 3 of 4 after winning the first two or grateful we got a split against the Cardinals. With the Cubs and Pirates getting swept this weekend, we missed a golden opportunity. Stearns really has to address the offense sooner than later.

Lost in the bad Chacin performance is yet another stinkfest by the offense. 11 runs in Game 1. 2 runs in Game 2. 2 runs in Game 3. 2 runs in Game 4.

Brewers' offense, folks.

Counsel was right, if 2 guys dont produce, then nobody does. But it doesnt help that sogard is batting.

so they sent Santana down because he struggling to get him fixed, but they keep Sogard on this team hitting near 200. He is a nice guy but he needs to be sent away because he is not doing this team any good.

fact check: He is nowhere close to .200.

If he were, he would be batting cleanup.

i mean we been trying to get him going for 7 years now yet the madness continues. Glaring, when nobody else is hitting.

I imagine our players arent to thrilled that we have a guy hitting .145 in the lineup.

And if the starters struggle with their command like they did the past three games and don't give you quality starts, then the chances of winning are slim.

I’ll take 1 run over 5 innings over 3 runs in 6 innings any day.

Miller Park is awful. Highlight of the game was a Sogard foul ball landing two rows in front of me so I almost got to say I caught a foul ball from a guy who claims to be a major leaguer.

I’m bout ready to jump off the Sogard train. Please mister Stearns , please ?

A very unspirited , white flag waved Sunday ... golden opportunities don’t come around like this weekend , often. Sure we got 2/4 but the potential was there for a huge leap. Again, from the get go it looked bad ... sigh. We do need to get more consistent starting pitching , yes. Sogard needs to go , far far from here. Pina is ... meh. Arcia couldn’t find a clue if he had spilt the game clue in front of him on a table.... I expect some shake and bake by Stearns and if he is smart which we think he is - I bet he jumps on a couple deals early July and beat the ‘Christmas’ rush....

Miller isnt the answer. Patchwork. Stearns will have to chase his off season investments with another investment, otherwise it made no sense to pick up cain and yelish. We are the best team in the NL. We get an ace, we will be the favorite and have decent chances against the powerful AL.

Sogard will be long gone. Its also gotta be disheartening to our competitive players who see sogard in the lineup...almost daily now. Strange.

For the third time this week CC tries to squeeze another inning out of a starter who doesn't have it and for the second time it bites him in the rear and would've been a third time if Hader didn't save his rear.

This is one of my greatest frustrations with CC. I actually criticize Maddon in the opposite direction for overmanaging his bullpen...CC is awful in the opposite direction. He gets too caught up trying to be overly efficient with his bullpen...and it's especially bad today with an off day tomorrow and a generally rested bullpen. I guarantee the Cubs would have gone to the bullpen sooner and had a better chance of staying in the game. It's obviously to everyone on the field that Chacin doesn't have it today...it's been obvious since the 1st inning.

This is my greatest frustration too. Why CC thought Chacin would come around when he was struggling with control all afternoon is mind numbing. What was CC saving his bullpen for? We are off today. We had an opportunity to put more distance between us and the Cubs this past weekend but no. I hope it doesn't come back and bite us in the keister. :(

With Aria's poor bat and Saladino on IR we are kinda stuck with Sogard. I hope once Tyler returns Eric will be sent back down.
