Mass, what is Henry's defensive profile? Good catcher? Average? Bad? Issues? Strengths? Just wondering.

I can't point to a specific Timber Rattlers Home Game Postgame Show Soundcloud broadcast (I do listen to them all during my commute), but Chris and Kyle (along with Matt Erickson) have been very complimentary.

Errorless ball in 47 starts behind the plate this year. Just three passed balls. 26 of 53 baserunners thrown out - 41% is outstanding.

I took my 11 year old son to Cedar Rapids to watch the T Rats game. The game didn't start too bad as Darren Seferina led off with a single up the middle. It was all downhill from there, as Brusdar Graterol took a break from striking out T rats batters in order to pick him off. Graterol was hitting triple digits on the stadium gun. I lost track of the number of strikeouts that he racked up.

Payton Henry threw out two Kernels base runners in the first. He does the little things as a catcher that the casual fan doesn't always appreciate. The game was over when the Kernels put up a ten spot in the fourth. Carlos Herrera was hitting 93 on the gun, but he didn't have any off speed stuff to keep the hitters off balance and they lit him up. Jose Cuas got knocked around. Two of the Cedar Rapids home runs were opposite field shots over the left field fence.

Tristen Lutz had a ringing double but he looked out of place as a center fielder. The biggest scare came on a foul ball between third and home. Gabe Garcia and Payton Henry didn't communicate and Henry took the worst of their collision but shook it off. Henry backed off another pop up later in the game that fell between the two of them.

We had thrown around the idea of driving to Des Moines to catch the Sky Sox game. The T-Rats looked totally outmatched this afternoon.

Final: Colorado Springs 2, Iowa 0

Not sure why the Sky Sox site isn't posting these road game summaries online, but here you go --

PITCHING STAYS HOT AS SOX POST THIRD SHUTOUT OF SERIES

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Sky Sox closed out their series victory nicely Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout over the Iowa Cubs to win the series four games to one. Three of the four victories came by way of shutout for the Sky Sox.

As has been the case throughout most of this series, strong pitching from both squads was the story of game five on Sunday afternoon. After yesterday's doubleheader saw a total of eight combined runs scored by both Colorado Springs and Iowa, today proved to be equally low scoring.

Both starting pitchers had strong games in this series finale. Zach Davies, who is currently down on MLB rehab, threw 4.1 scoreless innings for Colorado Springs, giving up just three hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Southpaw Kyle Ryan had nearly as good of a start for Iowa, allowing just one run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts through five innings of work.

After two scoreless innings kicked off game five, the Sky Sox were the first to score in the top of the third. In the first at-bat of the inning, Quintin Berry hit a homer to left field for his first dinger of the season and the first run of the day. Berry has just come off the Helena roster, after spending a good chunk of the season there thus far. Davies then reached on a Cubs throwing error, but a strikeout and a double play later and the inning was over.

After another two scoreless innings bookended the one-run third inning, the Sky Sox struck again in the sixth inning. Zach Hedges came into the game for Iowa to relieve Ryan on the mound, and gave up a double to the first batter he faced in the form of Brett Phillips. Phillips moved up to third on a groundout, scoring one batter later on a Nate Orf fielder's choice that saw both runners safe as the Cubs committed their second error of the afternoon on the play. Hedges got out of the inning without any more trouble, leaving the Sky Sox with a 2-0 lead. While the Cubs posted two errors today, the Sky Sox have gone the entire five-game series in Iowa without a single error.

The Cubs drew a pair of walks in the bottom of the seventh—one intentional and one unintentional—but couldn't amount any more offense than that in the half-inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Mark Zagunis drew yet another walk for Iowa to lead off the inning, advancing to second on a wild pitch. However, the next three batters were all retired, and the leadoff walk was left stranded on second as the game headed into the final inning of both the afternoon and the five-game series.

Orf led off the ninth inning with a single, moving up to second on an Andres Blanco one-out four-pitch walk. Both runners were stranded, however, after Hedges recorded a strikeout and a flyout to send it to the bottom of the ninth. Hedges finished the day with one run allowed on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts through four innings of relief, as he and starter Ryan proved to be Iowa's only pitchers in today's contest.

Mike Zagurski then came into the game for the Sky Sox on the mound in the ninth, after throwing a three-up-three-down save yesterday for his second save of the season. For the second time in as many days, Zagurski recorded a three-up-three-down save to secure the win and give the Sky Sox a 4-1 series victory over the Iowa Cubs.

The Sky Sox enter into the first game of a four-game homestand against the Memphis Redbirds tomorrow with a 7:40 PM Central scheduled first pitch at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs. For all information on Sky Sox, follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and visit the team's website at www.skysox.com.

Doubling Up on Shutouts: The Sky Sox posted their sixth shutout of the season Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, in game two of a doubleheader, they posted their fifth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Cubs. Colorado Springs had just posted their fourth shutout Thursday evening against the Iowa Cubs with a 5-0 victory. The last shutout for the Colorado Springs squad before that came on May 24 in Nashville when they blanked the Sounds 4-0. In one series, Colorado Springs doubled their total number of shutouts from three to six after blanking Iowa thrice.

Out in Front: The only time Iowa led in the entire five-game series was when they had the walkoff walk in the bottom of the ninth inning in game two on Friday night.

Final: AZL Brewers 9, AZL Padres2 8

AZL Brewers Box Score

The teams traded crooked numbers but 1 run in the bottom of the eighth would prove to be enough as the Brewers pull back to .500 at 3-3.

Pro debut for RF Pablo Garabitos, the recently inked 25th round pick out of a Florida high school. Garabitos did not have a hit, but he did draw a walk in his first pro plate appearance. 2B Edwin Sano continued his AZL onslaught with a single and a double in 5 ABs. Catcher playing DH Kekai Rios notched his first pro hit, a double. In his 8 career PAs, Rios has a double and 5 walks.

SS Luis Avila (not to be confused with Luis Avalo or Luis Aviles), just transferred over from the DSL co-op squad, made an impact with his stateside debut, going 3-4 with a double and a triple. Going into last night's game Avila had racked up a whopping 4 extra base hits in his first 442 pro plate apperances, all of them doubles. So the double and triple increased his career XBH output by 50% and raised his career ISO from .010 to .018. Soon a home run?

On the pitching side, another pro debut, this one for 5th round pick and RHP Justin Jarvis. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and a walk in his 2 innings of work. Johan Dominguez pitched a third of an inning in relief, making his stateside debut after spending the first bit of this year on the main DSL squad. Carlos Luna started and allowed no earned runs in his 2.2 innings.

Final: Helena 3, Billings 2

Coca Caps Off Series With Walk Off Winner

Brewers Win In Walk Off Fashion For 2nd Time In 2018

By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

cut.jpg

Excellent hair, Yeison.

HELENA, MT - The Brewers offense has come up clutch in some of the most critical moments early in 2018, and Sunday afternoon's game against the Billings Mustangs was no exception. Tied at two with a Jesus Lujano on and two out in the bottom of the ninth, Helena second baseman Yeison Coca took a first pitch fastball from Matt Pidich and sent it off the wall, scoring Lujano from first to win the game 3-2. The victory gave the Brewers (5-3) the series victory over the Mustangs (3-5), and their second walk off victory of 2018.

Coca helped get the Brewers on the board in the bottom of the first, reaching base on a dropped third strike. He stole both second and third, and scored on a ground out from Chad McClanahan.

Helena starter Wilfred Salaman had two Mustangs get into scoring position against him in the second with nobody out, but kept Billings off the scoreboard as he punched out Urwin Juaquin to strand the bases loaded and end the inning.

Billings did tie the game in the third on a two out double from Pabel Manzanero, but Salaman limited the damage to just that one run. Salaman allowed just the one run over five innings, surrendering just two hits.

The game remained tied at one until the top of the sixth, when Robert Boselli singled against Roberto Delgado with two out and nobody on. He advanced to second on a wild pitch to Juaquin, and Juaquin then singled him home.

The Brewers had trouble against Mustangs' starter Luis Alecis, mustering just three hits over five innings, but got to work against the bullpen in the sixth inning. Helena loaded up the bases with one out against Connor Curliss and Andrew McDonald, and Pablo Abreus ground out to third scored the tying run. However, the Brewers would leave the bases loaded, keeping the game knotted at two.

In the top of the seventh, the Mustangs threatened to score against Delgado, getting the tying run to second with two out. With Jake Turnbull up and a 1-2 count, a check swing appeal was denied by field umpire Rene Gallegos, resulting in an argument and eventual ejection of Brewers manager Nestor Corredor. Delgado got the strikeout two pitches later to end the threat.

Peter Strzelecki (W,1-0) in his first appearance with Helena pitched two scoreless frames, setting the table for the Brew Crew in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Pidich (L, 0-2) walked Je'Von Ward with one out, and Lujano grounded into a fielder's choice, replacing Ward at first. That brought up Coca, who roped the first pitch he saw to dead center field, ringing off the wall and scoring Lujano, giving the Brewers the win. In addition to the walk off double, Coca also stole three bases in the game.

The Brewers now welcome in the Missoula Osprey for the a modified four game series beginning with a double header tomorrow at 5:30 PM. Victor Castaneda will start game one for the Brewers, while Blake Lillis will take the ball in game two. Wilfry Cruz and Erin Baldwin will be the starters in those games respectively.
