Wow. Hopefully Domingo finds his stroke and/or confidence in CS. I have a feeling we will need his bat (his bat from last year) later on this year.

I get that it's likely short term just to get Santana some AB's. But the fact that Sogard remains on the roster is still baffling. How many utility IF do we really need - Sogard, Miller and Perez on the same roster is highly redundant.

As is Braun still not playing. Either DL him or let me play...it's just a waste of a roster spot.

The bullpen will need another arm fairly soon so Sogard likely will be sent back down when that happens. Interesting that Burnes has relieved a couple times now so he could be the next guy to occupy that last pen spot with a 40 man spot open.

Have to get Santana some AB's now rather than wait.

This move has just as much to do with Aguilar!

CC knows he misjudged Aguilar from the beginning. Even this year he is talking about what a nice bat he is...... off the bench, he adds. He JUST now this week is realizing how good he is. The only thing that has stopped Aguilar has been CC getting him the at bats. He now knows Aguilar has most of the at bats at 1B, and Thames is going to be part of the OF more, leaving Santana out.

I feel bad for Santana. He did so well last year, and under better circumstances he could be the same player. His confidence has to be waning when he did so well last season and the talk off-season was Cain and Yelich. His timing has to be off too with the little playing time. I hope he gets his at bats and gets back to Milwaukee at some point this season.

I really don't think Counsell just had some revelation about Aguilar this week. Aguilar has basically been a regular in the lineup since the beginning of May.

His playing time went down because of how poorly he played not the other way around. Had he been hitting well early he's still be in there most days. I still think he's going to be good major league player but he was clearly playing the worst of the OF options this season. Hopefully he gets things turned around.

Been waiting for Santana to be sent down for quite some time now, glad it finally happened. Really hoping he regains some form in Colorado, so that he gains at least some trade value. If he were to finish the season with his current numbers and his last option year used, he's a non-tender candidate.

Sogard has to be next in line for when a reliever is needed or when Saladino returns.

Santana had to be sent to AAA at the very least for a change in scenery, and to work out his issues.

Sogard still on this team baffles me.

Miller starting at 2B and Perez at SS? Would have expected it to be the other way around.

Poor Villar.

Sogard needs to go away not that I don’t think Santana needs work too but still ...

Sogard is hitting .357 as a pinch hitter THIS SEASON with a .438 on base percentage.

He has a .427 OBP in late/close games (7th inning or later with game tied, up by 1, or tying run at least on deck) and has a couple GW runs because of walks.

Sogard plays steady D and usually makes decent contact.... stuff you would want in a pinch hitter and late inning replacement.

He also had one of the best OBP on the team in 2017 and that needs to be remembered through his struggles.

Poor Villar.

Poor Villar? He's been ice cold lately, and his OPS is back under 700. He's simply not good and has been gifted too many opportunities.

For those wondering it doesn't sound like Miller is going to,take over as the every day SS

Tom tweet

Counsell on Miller's role with team: "What we may ask him is to move around the field more regularly, on a daily basis. Whether it be in double switches or starting role. He is versatile; he's a very good athlete. He has done this before." CC said Miller would play some SS.

CC must know he can't just play him at SS because of his shoddy defense. It must be a real issue since we have multiple similar guys who can play 2B or 3B.

1) Those stats are wrong, other than the late/close stat, which is over 20 ABs. You can pull a clutch/leverage stat over a limited sample size for literally almost any player and throw it out there to make him look good.

2) If you want to say Sogard usually makes decent contact, you should mention Sogard strikes out about 1 out of every 5 ABs. That's a lot for someone who offers absolutely nothing in terms of extra base ability.

3) I never recall you mentioning last year that Villar had one of the best OBPs on the team in 2016 and we should remember that throughout his struggles.

Sogard isn't good. You can dress up his stats how you like, but this is lipstick on a pig.

Sogard is hitting .136 this season.....

That is all - he is terrible and should not be on a mlb roster for a team with postseason aspirations. Defensively he is average, not nearly good enough to justify carrying a pitcher's bat on the bench.

Wish villar hadn't tweaked his leg a few weeks ago - he has been in a funk ever since and now appears to be headed back towards playing time purgatory. I agree with sending santana down to get regular at bats, but at some point the glut of bad MIF players littering the mlb roster have to just be thinned out.

1. The stats are right.... 14 ABs are small, though, as a sample.

2. Sogard has had higher Ks this season, sure. He has had bad numbers overall. So did your man, Villar.

3. Villar ran into outs constantly in 2016, his good year! His D was poor. I was constantly calling him to be traded, sat down and talked to, and/or given a red stop sign. Really good statsin 2016, with Little League baserunning and defense. Unbelievably bad...Last season, he played regularly at leadoff through August, even in CF to keep that great bat in the lineup, with an average in the low .200.... Villar had so much rope to be bad..... still does. Sogard doesn't and has been sent to the minors already this season despite LIKE U said, his small sample sizes.

I like Sogard off the bench much better than Villar as our regular 2B, and I hope he gets chances to play fairly regularly. Then, again, I'd take Sogard over Villar straight up.

This is so frustrating... Anybody watching the games must realize that Arcia's swing is messed up and he's not going to fix it in the majors on a contending team. Sogard obviously should not be playing, and Perez shouldn't really either.

Hopefully Saladino is coming back soon is all I can say. (Or Counsell is being misleading and they really are going to let Miller take over at SS)

Villar would be good, you're saying, but injuries and CC are holding him back? And 2017, what were the reasons?

Getting rid of Villar would help that glut...
