Should have pulled Guerra after the first battery reached; still an excellent outting.

I wouldn't say excellent at all. He didn't work one clean inning and struggled at times. It's a small miracle he's only given up one run to this point.

Yeah sometimes you don’t have your best stuff. The fact that he didn’t give up many runs while not having his stuff is what some would call excellent.

I thought the same thing. I doubt it even crossed Matheny’s mind. The guys thrown like 60 some pitches too.

I agree, not seeing the issue with letting Guerra start that inning.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I agree, not seeing the issue with letting Guerra start that inning.

Because it's the exact same scenario that happened last week with Anderson. In a one run game, he clearly didn't have his best stuff but Counsell tried to squeeze another inning out of him simply to clear his spot in the order the next time up. He got away with it tonight but he sure didn't last time. It didn't help either that he pulled Anderson for Boone Logan in a game they were only trailing by one run.

Amount of comments after he lets people get on base...Priceless.

 

There's also the fact that we don't have a hit but Counsell is the real problem.

 

Not just Counsell, but his pitching management.... In a year where pitching has been far from the issue.
