2018-06-21: Cardinals (Martinez) at Brewers (Suter) 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 11-3; Cardinals defensive woes; Suter - 7 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K]

Eye Black
Can you imagine Brewerfan if the Crew played D like the Cards? Chernobyl-esque meltdown!

You're making me want to go check the Cards boards.

Pretty tepid. I’ve been living in stl for about a year, and so many are just done with Matheny. Tonight has to be a low point. Bases loaded, nobody out is just the cherry on top.

Read some. There was a 2 page argument because people couldn't understand if you DL a starter you can call up an extra reliever. Guy asked "but who's going out of the pen" like 5 times... I got dumber reading it.

The term Blowzuna was used... Hope it sticks...

"Dumbest, most unauthentic roster ever assembled "

"Get rid of Martinez"

Some good stuff...

Suter is my favorite Brewer for the past two years.

He's not the best player on the team, but for some reason he's been pretty successful the last couple seasons. The team seems to love him. He's an interesting interview. Just seems like a dude who loves being in the bigs and that's fun to root for.

Plenty of comments about the poor STL defense so I won't pile on, but that play by Ozuna is one of the strangest I have ever seen. I have never seen a worse-tracked fly ball at the professional level, possibly aside for someone looking into the sun and losing one. Completely bewildering.

When it happened , and we got Yelich , and not Ozuna, I, for one was happy short and long term. I think Yelich is a better baseball player overall. DS making all the right moves now just jettison Sogard and I’ll be happy as a clam! Arcia especially and maybe Stanton need AAA time and we will be in business !

Watching the poor defense was really something, not very cardinals-like. It's hard to imagine the Cardinals staying in serious contention if they are capable of games/stretches like this. This might have been a reasonably close game if they played good defense and eliminated the errors. As much as I hate to say it, that's part of why the Cubs rarely have blowup games like this...they have plus or double plus defenders at every position on the field except 1(excluding pitcher spot).

Like I pointed out early in the thread the Cardinals have the worst defense in baseball, playing tag with the Texas Rangers for the lead in errors. So last night was VERY Cardinal like.

On Ozuna: the only thing I can figure is that he DID lose track of the ball....but fielders DUCK when that happens; it's a natural defense reflex as basic as batting your eyes in a dust storm. I have to conclude that the guy was high as a kite on something. If not...he needs to be traded immediately!

Suter works his ass off. That's a guy that absolutely never takes a second of the game off. He also did this

That's the best play I've ever seen a P make in the field at any level.

Shaun Marcum similar play for the Brewers

It's clear he misjudged it. Given the downturn in is fielding and offense, maybe something is off with his vision. Gyorko has no excuse for his play. I hope he plays the rest of the series.

Fortunately I missed the Gyorko gaffs, but we acquired him to be a bat off the bench. It was known he was no Brooks Robinson, or even Smokey Robinson. The lack of hitting makes Matheny forget about that stuff. He and his paycheck cashing flunkie-cronies of a coaching staff could really give a damn.

Get this: After the game Matheny blamed the stadium and a "couple of bad breaks" for the loss. The man doesn't even realize how stupid that sounds.

I'm pretty close to giving up on this team like I did when Torre was manager, and I'm not alone.

Gyroko looked bad for a little leaguer in his first year on the big field. He Billy Buckner'ed one and spiked a throw to first in the same inning allowing 4 runs to score. Between that, Ozuna and the other gaffs, the Cards gave the game away (keep it up, it's better to give than receive). The only thing Matheny could say that would have been more truthful would be blaming the loss on a "couple of bad players", but no manager can be that honest.

Suter just continues to get the job done and get little respect for doing it.

His last 6 or 7 starts have been outstanding.

I would kind of disagree about the respect thing. People love Suter. I mean not everyone does, but the people who do, really love the guy.

If anyone doesn't get respect I would say it's Guerra. You could probably make a good argument for him being our best starter, and yet on several occasions I've seen people refer to Chacin and Suter...with no mention of Junior.

Junior certainly deserves respect as well......what I mean about Suter is it seems like as soon as he gives up a run in any start somebody has to chime in about how they wish he was in the bullpen. You'd think he would have earned a little more rope from the intelligent posters on this site......but seems like some people just refuse to give him credit for earning a starting spot and doing a heck,of a job pretty of giving his team a chance to win pretty much every game.

I was at the game last night......he is a joy to watch pitch.....throws strikes, attacks hitters....pitches at a fast pace.....fields his position .....swings the bat and hustles.

Glad we have him.....hate to,think where we would be without him this season.

The reason Suter doesn't get respect is because he's a low round draft pick who isn't blessed with great stuff and is probably a #5 starter so people are just expecting him to drop off. You can't really fault them for that either because he has stunk it up in the past. It seems to be the norm for our starters. Anderson isn't pitching all that great right now and he was lights out last season after a slow start and was our opening day starter this season. Guerra, Davies, same thing. We just have to roll with what we have, live through the highs and lows, and hope Nelson returns to form later this season.

That game was like a beautiful dream (sorry, Dead Simmons). We had my 12 year old nephew and 14 year old niece along too, and the nephew was pretty pretty excited by everything. *happy sigh*
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
