Final: DSL Rangers1 8, DSL Indians/Brewers 2

DSL Indians/Brewers Box Score

The Brewers co-op team briefly took a lead with two runs in the top of the fifth, but they gave the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning, then allowed five runs in the eighth as they dropped to 3-13 with an 8-2 loss to the Rangers. All of the pitchers used in the game with Indians hurlers and only four Brewers' position players saw action. Luis Avila had the most productive day at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases while 18-year-old Dominican outfielder Alejandro Marte drew a base on balls.

This might already be inaccurate by tomorrow given some of the roster shuffling we already know about, but as of now my money would be on Hintzen for the first member of his draft class to hit full season ball. One hit, one walk, seven strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings thus far.

Final: Helena 13, Missoula 6

Brewers Light Up Osprey For 13 Runs To Even Series

Five Run Fifth Inning Puts Helena In Front For Good

Seriously, how do you mis-pronounce "Carmona"?

http://Box Score / Game Log

Helena put 20 men on base, so you know the offensive box score is going to be lit. Robie Rojas had a base hit with Colorado Springs before his first with the H-Crew, that's unique. As you just read, he joined Chad McClanahan and Nick Egnatuk with home runs Wednesday.

Professional mound debut for 5'6" Long Beach State 17th rounder Clayton Andrews, and we'll try to not permanently prefix 5'6" to his name here.

Also pro debuts for LH starter Scott Sunitsch (again, as you read). Also 4th round LHP Aaron Ashby and 27th round RHP Brady Schanuel, who will look back fondly on the team win but not much else, as neither completed an inning.

Missoula Bottom of the 3rd

Pitching Change: Aaron Ashby replaces Scott Sunitsch.

Jesus Marriaga singles on a ground ball to right fielder Je'Von Ward.

Eddie Hernandez grounds out, third baseman Nick Egnatuk to first baseman Chad McClanahan. Jesus Marriaga to 2nd.

Buddy Kennedy homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Jesus Marriaga scores.

Zachary Jones strikes out swinging.

Joe Robbins walks.

Cesar Garcia doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Leugim Castillo. Joe Robbins scores.

Pitching Change: Roberto Delgado replaces Aaron Ashby.

David Sanchez doubles (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Je'Von Ward. Cesar Garcia scores.

Luis Cossio grounds out, second baseman Yeison Coca to first baseman Chad McClanahan.

Missoula Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Brady Schanuel replaces Clayton Andrews.

Jesus Marriaga lines out to shortstop Jean Carmona.

Eddie Hernandez strikes out swinging, catcher Jose Sibrian to first baseman Chad McClanahan.

Buddy Kennedy singles on a ground ball to shortstop Jean Carmona.

Zachary Jones walks. Buddy Kennedy to 2nd.

Joe Robbins hit by pitch. Buddy Kennedy to 3rd. Zachary Jones to 2nd.

Cesar Garcia singles on a line drive to left fielder Leugim Castillo. Buddy Kennedy scores. Zachary Jones scores. Joe Robbins to 2nd.

Pitching Change: J. T. Hintzen Jr. replaces Brady Schanuel.

David Sanchez strikes out swinging, catcher Jose Sibrian to first baseman Chad McClanahan.

Final: AZL Brewers 8, AZL Reds 2

AZL Brewers Box Score

Brewers win their first game behind great pitching from Michele Vassalotti (5 IP/1 R), Freisis Adames (3 IP/1 R), and Renny Tolentino (1 IP/0 R). It was the stateside debut for the still 17-year-old Vassalotti and the 21-year-old Adames; it was recent undrafted signee Tolentino's pro debut. The pitchers combined for 6 strikeouts and none of them allowed a walk.

The other pro debut came on offense when 28nd round catcher Kekai Rios entered the game in the 6th inning. Rios walked in both his plate appearances so the OBP is looking good. The starting catcher was Bryan Torres, who was making his stateside debut. Torres singled in 2 ABs.

Nic Pierre paced the offense with 4 hits, including 2 doubles and a triple. Aaron Familia added a single and a double, and Jess Williams doubled and walked.

Do we have a scouting report on Michele Vassalotti? Is he more of a command guy, or a "stuff" guy? I know he's an intriguing young guy to keep our eyes on, but just curious if anyone has a handle on what this guy brings to the table?

The only one I'm aware of is here: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-30-prospects-milwaukee-brewers/

Michele Vassalotti, RHP – A 17-year-old Italian righty who posted a 1.63 ERA as a 16-year-old in the DSL, Vassalotti sits 90-93 and throws strikes with three pitches. He’s physically mature for a teenager, and his lower arm slot might cause platoon issues down the road. Let’s hope he’s a sign that baseball is growing in Italy, where there is currently too much relaxing and enjoyment of fine foods.

Given the amount of ground balls he induces and lower arm slot, guessing it's a FB-SL-CH profile.

I'm basing this solely on the numbers, but his command appears to be extremely impressive for such a young guy. I don't often notice such low BB rates on younger guys in pro ball.

OK - thanks for the thoughts/insight on Vassalotti - even if there isn't really much to go on yet. Certainly, someone to keep our eyes on here this year to see how he continues to progress now that he's stateside.
