We've added Helena's audio link to the spot for that in our daily initial post.

Welcome to Helena's new broadcaster now that Garrett Greene is in Biloxi.

Find Greg Mroz on Twitter here.

Ouch, and just as I post that, this appears on Twitter, so listen to Friday's game at the Great Falls link.

Hopefully normal on Saturday.

The start of Helena's season is always exciting.

The player I'm most interested in following is 19-year-old RHP Victor Castaneda. The kid was 18 last spring and holding his own in 24 Mexican League innings. That's a league that compares to a AA/AAA mix.

The Brewers swooped one and said, thank you very much. We detailed best we could the Brewers' pursuit of Castaneda an summarized it in this post just after his 4th of July official signing last summer.

18-year-old 2017 12th round OF Je'Von Ward would be my second big interest.

Helena Brewers begin final season in Great Falls

ERIK C. ANDERSON, 406mtsports.com

“We have two really exciting young guys, RHP's (Justin) Bullock and opening night starter (Max) Lazar,” Brewers manager Nestor Corredor said of his pitching staff. “They had a good season in Arizona. They’ve been good so far. We have high expectations. We have new guys here. According to reports, they’re special too. That's why I say I got a good feeling compared to last couple of years.”

Full article at the link above.

Corredor has a 56-91 record in two seasons as the Brewers manager.

Yeah, it's been tough, man. A very young team in 2018 tries to turn that around.

Final: DSL Brewers 10, DSL Tigers1 2

DSL Brewers Box Score

Another day, another win for the main DSL club. The Brewers scored at least one run for the first six innings and the pitching staff held up their end of the bargain to complete the decisive win. In most of the DSL divisions, an 8-4 record would put the Brewers in first place, but unfortunately they are 2 games behind the team with the best record as the DSL Rangers2 check in at 10-2.

16-year-old catcher Jesus Chirinos lead the way offensively with 4 hits including 3 doubles. Extremely small sample alert, but a .313/.421/.563 slash at 16 years of age will do. He was the youngest player in the entire Brewers' organization until Jolon Lun was signed yesterday. Chirinos turns 17 on July 27th.

Chirinos' playing time would seem to have expanded with the disappearance of Andres Melendez from the lineup. Still not sure what happened with Melendez as he hasn't played since the 4th but remains on the active roster.

Oh, and Carlos Rodriguez had another multi-hit effort. He notched 2 singles and added a double as well. Again, small sample, but Rodriguez is hitting .432 through about his first 50 PAs as a pro. SS Victor Maria, 1B Farlyn Manon, and RF Alwinson Valdez all had two hits. Valdez, Maria, and CF Larry Ernesto each got a double.

On the pitching side, starter Henry Medina had an odd pitching line as noted by Jim above. In his third DSL season, Medina has taken "pitch to contact" to heart - in 14.1 innings, he has issued 2 walks and struck out just 3. Today's 6 inning, 0 BB/0 K effort has to be some sort of baseball anomaly, but I'll leave that research up to someone else.

Recently signed RHP Wellington Nunez made his pro debut, pitching a scoreless inning with a walk. Johan Dominguez, who at 22 is somewhat surprisingly still in the DSL after two good seasons, pitched the final two innings and struck out 2, the only 2 Ks of the day for the staff.

DSL Brewers Game Log

Finally, strikeouts:

DSL Tigers1 Top of the 8th

Pitching Change: Johan Dominguez replaces Wellington Nunez.

Alvaro Gonzalez strikes out swinging.

Esney Chacon grounds out, shortstop Victor Maria to first baseman Farlyn Manon.

Pedro Garcia called out on strikes.

Final: DSL Pirates1 5, DSL Brewers/Indians 2

DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score

The co-op team once again coughed up some runs and the offense couldn't do enough late. Starter Alexis Ramirez, the lone Brewers' pitching participant in this one, allowed 3 of the runs in his 4 innings of work in his 2nd pro start.

I'm not sure if there is something wonky going on with the box score in this game, but if what it says is true, outfielder Reidy Mercado made a start and first pro appearance at 3B and OF Bryan Connell made a start and first pro appearance at catcher. I'm dubious about either of those things, but I guess we'll find out if/when they play those positions again. Maybe the manager just drew names out of a hat for each position. Anyway, wherever Mercado played, he had 2 hits including a double. Connell had a single. Roberto Molina, who usually is a catcher, played first base today and got a double as well. Today's RF (?) but usual infielder was Jose Arteaga and Jose took an 0-4, which runs his career-opening hitless streak to 10 ABs.

DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log

The only runs:

DSL Indians/Brewers Top of the 9th

Marlin Made flies out to center fielder Daniel Rivero.

Nehemias Celesten strikes out swinging.

Bryan Connell singles on a line drive to center fielder Daniel Rivero.

Roberto Molina doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Randy Romero. Bryan Connell scores.

Elian Gonzalez walks.

With Jose Arteaga batting, passed ball by Yeison Ceballo, Roberto Molina to 3rd. Elian Gonzalez to 2nd.

With Jose Arteaga batting, wild pitch by Andres Arrieta, Roberto Molina scores.

With Jose Arteaga batting, wild pitch by Andres Arrieta, Elian Gonzalez to 3rd.

Jose Arteaga flies out to left fielder Randy Romero.

Formal disabled list placements in the DSL are extremely rare, so unless something sneaks out about Melendez that's a dead end of info.

Hiura helping out with the glove

Chris Harris tweet

21 up and 21 down for Biloxi's Zack Brown. He got some big time help from his 2B Keston Hiura in that 7th inning with a diving play.

Grisham on the other hand...

Plenty of follow-up later, including a feature article from MiLB.com to be sure, but for now:

Wow, a complete game one-hitter for Zack Brown as Biloxi wins the first-half title. The no-hitter was lost when Corey Ray laid out but couldn't quite keep a shallow center field fly in his glove with two outs in the 9th. Congrats, Biloxi and Zack!

Corey Ray's last four games: 2-18, 1 BB (intentional), 10 K. .641 OPS for the month of June so far.

Interesting lineup for Helena: Coca (2B), Pinero (SS), Carmona (3B), Egnatuk (DH). Going to be interesting seeing how that shakes out over the season. A really good sign that Egnatuk was promoted.
