Of course, the draft isn’t the only way to add upside to the farm. Lost in the prospect explosion was this minor move: On June 2, the Milwaukee Brewers purchased the contract of 6’0” 27-year-old righty Danny Reynolds from the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.

Walk off homer for Hiura.....the legend continues to grow.....

Hard to believe come September, he could not help Brewers out off bench. He just has made mockery of pitchers at every level so far. Kid simple can hit like no prospect we have seen since Braun. If his defense checks out at at least average. I don’t see if he keeps up his tored pace up, he doesn’t force Brewers hand. Not like we have any stars crushing it ahead of him

Biloxi Box Score

Keston Hiura hit a walk off HR in the bottom of the 9th to propel the Shuckers to a 6-5 victory over the Braves.

The Shuckers got a good performance from Thomas Jankins on the mound (only 1 earned run over six innings), and a key bases-loaded pinch triple from Clint Coulter in the 8th inning, which tied the game.

With the victory, plus a lose by Mobile, the Shuckers magic number to clinch the South Division first half title stands at two with four games left to play.

Batting

Keston Hiura: 3-4, 2B, HR, BB (walk off HR)

Trent Grisham: 1-2, 2BB

Jake Hager: 2-3, BB

There are 11 "Alec's" currently playing affiliated MiLB ball.

The Brewers have four (Asher, Crawford, Kenilvort, Bettinger).

Breaking down these hundreds of Brewer-based box scores each year will do this to you. Keeps the mind sharp, I guess...

Final: Colorado Springs 6, Las Vegas 2

SKY SOX BEGIN HOMESTAND WITH 6-2 WIN OVER LAS VEGAS

cut.JPG

Usual fine write-up and notes at the link above, although the Thursday pitching matchup listed seems incorrect. It looks like it'll be former Brewer farmhand RHP Drew Gagnon for the Mets' AAA club, TBA for the Sky Sox.

Box Score / Game Log

Nate Orf doubled twice and walked three times. Bye, bye slump.

The .922 OPS is fine (even Colorado Springs-adjusted), but Jacob Nottingham's golden sombrero has him at 36 K's in 102 AAA at-bats.

Jett Bandy has started four games since his outright assignment. One behind the plate; this was his 3rd at first base. Big offensive night for him.

Big-time blast from the past: 24-year-old Joshua Torres, eleased by the Crew in spring training 2016, was called up to AAA y the Mets after a strong start to his AAA season. Who knew?
