Pedro Gomez of ESPN reported overnight that the Los Angeles Angels expect Ohtani to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2018 season and the entire 2019 season.

 

Last night the Angels GM denied the Gomez report was accurate and surgery was not a part of the discussion.

Tough luck. And Trout is a FA after 2020 so they would potentially only get one year overlap and it'll be the first year back for Ohtani, which is usually a bit of a struggle.

Good point. I don't know why I went to ESPN to check out this type of sport's story as it's not really newsworthy. I am well aware that ESPN's sports news is largely limited to:

 

"football player accused of 2007 sexual assult"

 

"basketball player trash-talks another basketball player"

Considering Ohtani's OPS is 200 points higher than Pujols, you would think they have to be considering just having him DH the rest of the year.
