Quality Start Leader? Your Milwaukee Brewers? [not true]

rickh150

I recently was looking up team 2018 pitching stats. I did this since I figured the Brewers pitching stats had to look a lot different than the typical team.... more relief innings, less quality starts, more RP Ks and such.

However, when looking at team quality starts, the Brewers are listed as leading the league with 38! I couldn't believe it! I checked specifically again what a quality start was defined as (again), and it was sp with at least 6 IP with 3 or less runs.... not surprised. Then I looked at the Brewers individual pitchers themselves (Guerra, Anderson 5, Chacin and Davies 3, Miley 1) and tallied their QS. I got a total of 17! Yet, on the bottom of the same stat line, the total listed total QS were 38.

Can somebody explain this?

I'd appreciate it...

I wonder if ESPN is treating it at the team level, so it is the number of times the Brewers have given up 3 or fewer runs in the first 6 innings of a game. I could easily believe that happened 38 times this year for the Brewers.

Yea, that makes sense. But sort of defeats the purpose of the "stat" of Quality START doesn't it?

Also got me to thinking, if that's what they're using to define QS, then the Brewers must lead the league (or very close ) in quality finishes too. However you want to define that- 1.5 runs or less in 6th-9th?
