Area Code Games

The Area Code Games officially start tomorrow & run through Saturday. The Brewers held/are having an exhibition game between their 2 teams (White & Grey) yesterday & today. I'm sure Baseball America will be providing coverage of the event over the course of the week, and hopefully we'll start to hear about some of the emerging prep stars.

And be sure to check out Brewerfan.net's interview with Jack Zduriencik (linked to the left) to refresh your memory of the Brewers' special relationship with the Area Code Games. To check out their official site visit:

For those interested...here's BA's coverage of Day 1. Short but sweet, and it was kind of hidden under their High School coverage, as I'm not sure if they'll bump this info onto the front page as the week goes on. Ranking the minor league tools at midseason certainly is a more interesting subject to feature, but they have found a place for this info on their frontpage in the past.

I spoke with Assistant Scouting Director Tom Flanagan yesterday and he informed me that he & Jack Z. would be heading out to California today to check out the Area Code Games for the rest of the week. They had to stick around town early this week for some guy named Weeks.

Weimar (Texas) High righthander Kenn Kasparek is the event's most intriguing pitcher at 6-foot-10, 225 pounds. He has overpowering potential with an 89-92 mph fastball that comes in on a tough downhill plane, and he showed the ability to spin a hard-biting 79 mph curveball.

6 foot 10?!? Yikes... I bet that 90mph fastball looks like its about 98.

Thanks for the link, Patrick!
