With the increasing focus on Latin American signings, I like this. Otherwise it would be too easy for young players to get buried beneath the next wave of draft picks/dsl promotions after one bad year. It would be especially apparent in the outfield this year. Guys like Melendez, Cipion and Florentino might get playing time and a better chance to develop than they would have otherwise.

MLB's 30 fastest prospects -- one from each team

By Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Mike Rosenbaum, MLB.com

Brewers: Korry Howell, SS

Howell swiped 83 bases in 99 attempts (84 percent success rate) during his two years at Kirkwood (Iowa) JC before going to Milwaukee in the 12th round of 2018. After signing, Howell batted .311 and went 12-for-16 on the basepaths in Rookie-level Arizona League. He's been known to post sub-4.0-second home-to-first run times, which is elite for a right-handed hitter.

Likely 2019 level: Class A Wisconsin

But isn't Brice Turang also slated for Wisconsin?

They both can't play shortstop?

Guess it's time to think Playstation... ;)

I missed the news that MLB.com was in charge of player placement. In either case, maybe we should reacquire Ryan Cordell to play short. That way both are blocked and we can end the debate. ;)

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

About those December Brewer releases --

LHP Brandon Presley turned 22 in November. Presley was drafted in the 22nd round in 2017 out of a Florida junior college (Florida Southwestern State). Here was the school's press release upon the signing of the 6'7" southpaw, who repeated Helena in 2018. Presley walked 26 and threw eight wild pitches in his 39.2 pro innings, but also struck out 41.

Congratulations to Brandon, continuing the dream by signing with Sioux City (IA) of the independent American Association.

Brewers have been aggressively placing players since Flanagan took over. Put the kids in sink or swim mode for two months until rookie ball starts. If they perform great! If they struggle then they can go back down & figure it out. Turang was outstanding at both levels. See zero excuse for him not to be at Wisconsin. That is why it is believed he is slated for Wisconsin

Never get caught up in position & being blocked. Teams are creative for making sure the most talented players are getting plenty of reps at top position. From DH games, working at other positions and etc. Teams have priority players like Turang who will get majority of game innings but others will get there games as all. Worst case scenario is players like Howell develop ton of versatility... never a bad thing

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used
