After much thought and consideration, I have decided to attend Augustana University this fall. Thank you to the Milwaukee Brewers organization for the great opportunity. Also, thank you to all those that provided help and support throughout the process. ⚔️

Does anybody on here ever remember so many ups not getting signed? Does this happen to other teams as well? I mean we signed only half our drafted players. Does the international signings play into this?

Last year was similar. Part of the new strategy of quality over quantity. Draft younger, higher ceiling players who are harder signs. Better to sign a few higher ceiling players over many depth guys.

Yep. 19 unsigned picks (where we're at currently) would easily be the most since the draft went to 40 rounds.

My uninformed guess is probably a combination of who they take early (i.e. how much over slot it will cost to sign him) and the international guys. You gotta draft someone so if you don't need bodies or you like the guys you already have you might as well just draft a HS kid who won't sign.

One of the lowest signing pools in majors, drafted ton of high school, junior college, and sophomore eligible kids with leverage.... bad combination for signing numbers. Doesn’t bother me though. Take risks to get better talent that may cost you more than draft and sign a lot of guys who are fillers

Another key, drafting a guy in the first round who is going to demand hundreds of thousands over slot. That will pretty much sink your pool really fast. Draft someone who will go underslot and you are talking half a million dollars extra to throw around.

Not saying you should do that, but that really effects things and makes it tough to get Cabell.

I also wonder if the team tried to draft a lot of “maybes” late and then try to sign the college seniors/safe picks as undrafted signings rather then spend a selection on those guys.

IIRC in the past a lot of 20-30 round picks were safe picks, low upside college players. And now more higher upside HS, and maybe because of websites/Twitter but I noticed more after draft signings.

Plus more international signings I think

The Brewers’ unsigned 19th round draft pick from 2018, Peyton Zabel, is in some serious legal trouble.

Arrest clouds Peyton Zabel's athletic future with Augustana, MLB

Geez, what a year. The article says he turned down a six-figure signing bonus. He'd probably like a do-over on that. Life can change on you pretty quickly.
