Scooter

Just heard from someone who lives in Cinci that Scooter is on the trade block.

Not that we would ever admit we made a mistake and throw our hat in the ring, just putting it out there.

I foresee great things for this thread.

With Villar playing well in May I don't think it is even a consideration right now. If they do go that route in a couple of months I think it will likely be more of a rental. Scooter is controlled for 2019 as well but Hiura is knocking on the door so doubt it would happen.

Reds would be fools not be shopping him now, great sell high opportunity for them. They're not contending anytime soon and he's playing out of his mind. Of course it depends on the price, but I'd welcome him back if it made sense.

If the Brewers don't shop for a 2B upgrade at the deadline, there actually aren't many others who would be that interested. Seattle, probably, with Cano's suspension/injury...Dbacks if they fancy themselves as contenders...and the Dodgers/Angels if they've tired of Utley/Forsythe and Kinsler there, respectively...but most of the other potential contending teams are pretty well set at 2B.

Even with Scooter's fantastic offensive #'s as a 2B, and one more season of team control left before he reaches free agency, I doubt he nets much of a return if he does get traded. I just don't see a crazy bidding war for him, especially if a guy like Lowrie winds up available at the deadline.

I think it would be worth it.

If Arcia is still slumping, re-acquiring Scooter gives the Crew the option to put Villar at short - where there is at least 100 points of OPS improvement to be had.

There needs to be some upgrade in the offense. Catcher may not be an option, but getting Scooter can boost both 2B and SS.

CC won't play Villar on a regular basis at 2B now, his best position, why on earth would he play him at SS, even if Arcia is still slumping? Makes no sense.

Brewers aren’t not going to move Villar back to SS nor does it making any sense.

yup, not a chance, no way , no how.

Reading some of the Red's message boards, there is quite a debate on Scooter. Some are wanting to capitalize by trading him and quite surprisingly, others are advocating to sign him long term and make him a cornerstone of the team. Scooter is a great story, local kid that comes home, plays for his childhood team and who most likely, will be the starting 2B for the NL at the All Star game. Books are written about people like him! However, the Reds must face reality, trading Scooter would be the best for them in the long run. As far as a reunion with the Brewers, it's not going to happen. The size of the crow DS would have to eat is California Condor size, give him away and then give up major assets to get him back. No way!
