when rickie rockets to the bigs do you feel he will be a better leadoff hitter or his he good enough to hit perhaps 3rd??

I would be surprised if more than a couple people on this forum have ever seen him play. Our opinions of him are entirely a product of what we've heard or read. Why don't we wait until he has at least a year of professional baseball under his belt before we start discussing his Major League batting position?

This is twice in two days that I've ripped on you, Scoop, but don't take it personally. I'm not saying that its wrong to talk about him but no opinion that you get with regard to his future as a leadoff hitter will be anything more than unsubstantiated speculation.

If somebody's seen him play, then by all means chime in. But if not, it seems kinda silly to project his batting order spot before he's even played a pro game. He could develop into the next Sammy Sosa for all we know... not really something to worry about.

It better be for an '03 deal if he signs now. If not, why not make him sweat a little longer?

I'm a little surprised that they would send him to Helena. I thought Beloit for sure, possibly High Desert. He has been out of action for about 2 months now, so I'm sure they want to ease him back into the swing of things before possibly bumping him up to Beloit for the MWL playoffs. All possibly a tune up for the AFL.

After that, I have a feeling Weeks won't see time below High Desert next year. I hope he does so we all can see him in Beloit.

EDIT: I just realized that if Weeks does indeed sign within a day or two my prediction of him signing by the end of July will only be about 5 days off. I think I also said his contract would be similar to the $4 million dollar MLB deal Loewen received. We'll have to see if my contract predictions are as good as my ones for our DFEs (and better than my draft predictions http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ).

You know Al, I agree with a lot of what you say. You're a smart man.

However, I really think that it was sad that you had to degrade other people's opinions by calling them "unintelligent." Just because you think you have a better opinion does not mean others are stupid, dumb, etc.

By the way, I never called you a pompous genius, I said your attitude was pompous, and the genius part was just sarcasm. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

The only reason I asked about if he could play this year would be that I was wondering if it were possible to have the contract start as a 2003 minor league deal so he could play in the minors this year without burning an option. After the 2003 season, the Brewers could bring Rickie onto the 40-man roster and begin spreading out his payments. This way they would have one extra option year. That doesn't even sound like it would be legal, but I figured maybe there would be a chance of it.
