That's worth a challenge. What are they thinking?

Villar seemed unconvinced. I hope Sogard makes Reyes throw a lot of pitches, hope for a wild one and a run by the young pitcher throwing to a young catcher

He doesn't get the benefit of a super slow motion on a force play, so they certainly shouldn't be leaving it up to whether or not Villar is convinced.

But that close I can't believe he isn't ar least standing on 1st and making a case.

Well right, but I know from playing that you generally know if you are obviously safe or out...but tough to tell definitively on a bang bang play. I didn't see the play(radio on my phone at work), but at the minimum it sounds like it was close.

As for bunting, you can't look at the result to justify the bunt...what if Villar hits a bomb? Then a bunt would obviously be stupid. I think taking a chance to move the runners over would add pressure to the young pitcher. His stuff is so nasty, a very decent chance of a wild pitch will score a run in that spot. Also a decent chance Reyes has to field his position, and you never know how well a pitcher will handle that.

I'm not sure why Guerra swung at back to back pitches to open the atbat. He's a pitcher, he should take at least one, probably two. Try and lengthen the at bat. Only Suter gets away with swinging first pitch, 430 foot bombs give you that leniency.

Disagree, best pitch he's probably going to see is the first one. He's up with 2 out and bases loaded so it's all or nothing, he may as well try to get lucky. if he gets down 0-2 his chances are greatly reduced.

Both pitches he swung at were strikes and he hit a liner so I don't know what else you could ask for.

Kratz totally looks like backup catcher.

Either that or an extra from Major League II.

I assume you mean physically looks like a catcher.

Because so far I have been impressed with play. 2-5 HR, HBP, with two line drive outs. Keeping alive, and driving up the pitch count, once he fell behind on the bad strike call by the ump.

Don’t blame the Brewers for not challenging. He was safe and likely it would be reviewed that way, but then you are wasting your challenge in the 2nd inning with straight trash coming up.

I would have challenged personally...but that’s just me.

1) HR

2) Triple

3) Double

4) Single

5) no out (foul).

Set the bar high so that they excel. Set the bar low and you get low...

If you're right, you can still challenge again.

Either way, you're talking the difference between 1st/3rd one out and 3rd/2 out against a great pitcher in a tie game. It's a crucial miss and you absolutely take the chance. Counsell has made much worse challenges. You don't take away a scoring opportunity because you're worried about not having a challenge for 4 innings when most days you're not going to use one at all and you're probably going to end up being right and keeping your challenge anyway.

It's a pitcher. If he gets a hit he pretty much got lucky. He lined out.

60 pitches through 3 should mean 5 at most from Reyes...

Not necessarily, he could throw 10 pitches in each of the next 4 innings.

EDIT: Though I have no idea what kind of a pitch count they have on him today.
