Nathan Kirby

Could someone who's seen him pitch this year give some insight into how he looks? I've seen his line...and just having him back pitching is encouraging. But I'm curious about where his velocity is, what his stuff looks like. You expect a guy to struggle a bit with command, so his uninspiring peripherals are not that interesting to me at this point, but does he look anything like the guy who was a potential top 5 pick several years ago? I know they're being very careful with him.

Any info is appreciated....or a link where this was previously discussed.

I've seen him a few times. He is on a pitch count so he never gets that far into the game. It seems to me that he is not really letting loose yet but he's not really that much of a power pitcher anyway. I don't know if it's just his style but he seems to throw something like a shot putter right now (at least to me). The slider/curve is his out pitch now and he's not throwing fastballs for strikes much. Does change speeds quite a bit. I think we'll have to reserve judgement to see how well he recovers from all the surgery.

Of course. If memory serves, I thought he was kinda a power pitcher, or at least viewed as one going into his Jr. season at UV. I thought he threw in the mid 90's...at least touched the mid 90's with advanced command and secondary pitches. After missing as much times as he has though....I would guess it's gonna take a full year before he feels comfortable really letting loose and not thinking about it anymore.

But if his stuff comes back, that's a potential TOR lefty down the road. Long shot of course, but I love following pitchers with that upside...
