What should be DS targets

I wonder if it means that things aren't looking good for either of Nelson or Davies returning this season.

If it is correct, the Jays probably wouldn't need to scout "extensively" if it involved top prospects. If it happens, my guess is two guys in the #11-20 range.

According to a source, the Blue Jays have been extensively scouting the Brewers' system. J.A. Happ could be on Milwaukee's radar, as the Brewers need a starter and the lefty is one of the top arms expected to be traded this month.

Hmmm this doesn't coincide at all with Stearns' comments in Appleton.

GM speak in July.

Also, Happ probably would be the headliner of the rotation if he came to the Brewers, so Stearns wouldn't be wrong.

We're (and Feinsand) are also assuming it's Happ. It could be Stroman, as since someone else noted, it'd be a great time to buy-in on him.

Solarte could be another potential target. Great power numbers, positional flexibility and a switch hitter. That checks a few Stearns boxes.

But a bad time for the Jays to sell low on him.

"A source" , "J.A. Happ could be on Brewers' radar"...these are part of the initial tweet that could frankly be written by anyone about anyone. The Blue Jays are probably extensively scouting just about every other contending team's systems, too - "extensively" could mean having an intern with a fangraphs account combing through brewer farm stats, and having a couple area scouts show up to a few games between contending teams' minor league affiliates.

"the Brewers need a starter and the lefty (Happ) is one of the top arms expected to be traded this month".....could've been written back in February and still been just as accurate as it is right now.

I believe we've sniffed around Stroman (buy low), doubt Happ. He ain't no CC type rental...just an average Joe middle of the road type of guy...waste of assets. I could be convinced that we've talked about Syndergaard too. Yanks are in on Happ and deGrom so they're off the table just for that IMO.

If DS is looking for a controllable, top of the rotation-type starter to try and acquire at this year's deadline, I'd rather he turn his attention to the west coast and not east coast. Oakland is 7 games over 0.500 but still 8 games behind the 2nd wild card spot in the AL thanks to some dominant teams in front of them - if they don't make up significant ground over the next few weeks and a playoff spot looks like a longshot, I'd at least give Beane a call and ask about Sean Manaea's asking price.
