I don't understand this move. I mean I get moving on from Jett. But I do not get this move.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Unless this is a way to move Kratz to AAA and bring up Bethancourt or Nottingham, I'm scratching my head on this one.

kratz was on a minor league deal with the yankees, so his contract will have to be selected by the brewers. kratz is out of minor league options and has been outrighted many times to the minor leagues. if the brewers wish to send kratz to the minors after adding him to the 25-man roster, he reserves the right to refuse the assignment and become a free agent.

well, he arguably can't be worse than bandy has been this year, but I'm also in the camp that would probably have preferred giving Bethancourt a shot over this. Either way, backup catcher probably isn't going to "move the needle" much on this team.

i think it's important to point out that we're all assuming that kratz will have his contract selected (it hasn't been yet). the brewers could select the contract of any other catcher in their minor league system, as there is an open spot on the 40-man and keep kratz at colorado springs.

please select Bentancourt or bring Nottingham up (not sure if his DL stint is complete but it has been 7 days i think?)

I'm kind of 'meh' about this move. But Bandy wasn't playing well, so can't really be much of a downgrade. I'll trust David Stearns as always.

Hoping it's Bethancourt having his contract selected though. Or that Kratz is a stopgap for Nottingham.

While the Brewers were rebuilding when the move was made, Martin Maldonado for Jett Bandy deal was definitely a miss by Stearns.

I am no Bandy fan, but I'm not losing any sleep over missing out on Drew Gagnon or the privilege of paying Martin Maldonado $4M dollars.

$4 million is a lot for an elite defensive catcher I agree. However, given the salary situation on the roster right now, Maldonado would be "affordable" for 2018.

assuming it is bethancourt, he could've been told last night and caught a plane this morning from memphis to milwaukee (or chicago).

if it's kratz, how likely is it that he could get from scranton wilkes-barre to milwaukee in time for tonight's game?

the dfa of bandy without an immediate corresponding 40-man roster move is puzzling.
