Moore has discovered something, that's for sure. Nine-for-12 in SB attempts, too. Will be 26 in August, Rule 5 eligible in the fall, but Brewers own his rights through 2021, which is nice. In the same sample size, he has nearly doubled his 2017 OPS at AA with the Braves (1.032 to .584). Well, not quite, but you get the picture (stats).

Mass, please expound on "own his rights through 2021." Are you referring to 3 more years of minor league control? He hasn't made it to the majors yet, so I'd imagine he'd still have 6 years, right??

As indicated on his stats page linked above, Moore began his pro career in 2015.

Minor leaguers need to complete seven pro seasons before qualifying for minor league free agency.

When the Brewers picked up Moore, they assume the seven-year initial pro contract Moore signed with the Braves.

Should Moore reach the big leagues, your point is well taken, in that a new type of "own his rights" clock begins, which is a reminder that a team really owns a player's rights for up to 13-14 years combined minor/major league service time.

Interesting story. Will be really interesting come July or so and he's still tearing the cover off the ball.

Moore continues to crush. I'd love to hear what changed when he got to the Milwaukee organization. He looks like a big leaguer. He's passed up Nate Orf.

He only had one bad year, last year where he hit a dreadful 584 OPS. The two years prior were 830 and 820 OPS. So he has shown he could hit. I think teams just gave up on him too early.

Here is a scouting report from a few years ago. He's faster than I realized and has a bit of pop. But clearly fits best as a utility man due to his limited range and average arm.

I'm pretty excited about him. Could easily push for a utility role next year or earlier.

Why next year? Good bye Sogard.

That scouting report is good, but I'll dispute that he doesn't have a positional home. He's a perfect fit at 2B.

He had a bad year last year, but must not have had a strong spring to get the Braves to release a 25 year old with such versatility. The Crew must have helped him make some sort of change at the plate.

He started at SS for CS today. Could the Crew be comparing him at SS to see if he is a better option for Sogard? He also puts pressure on Perez.

It will be interesting to see if Moore can continue to hit like this. Numerous roles for him in Milwaukee if the bat is real.

He made the Fangraphs top 30 (barely) for Atlanta before the 2017 season, so there's at least some scouting precedent for him being a possible utility guy.

Scouting Report

Despite a very simple swing consisting of very little lower half use, Moore is able to generate average raw power, and he can torch balls on the inner half. When pitchers are working him away, he has trouble getting the bat head there without extending his hands early and arriving late. He’s hit well in A-ball as a college draftee, but I do think upper-level pitchers will be able to exploit him more readily than low-level arms have been able to. He’s a 40 runner and, despite having played most of his pro career there, I don’t think he fits at short full time. He’s already begun to see time at the other three infield spots, and he spent time in the outfield with Texas before he was sent to Atlanta in the Jeff Francoeur deal. I like him as a mistake-hitting utility man who plays all over the field.

I don't see how he should get a call up before Orf though?

At the very least the Brewers have a couple of guys that can replace Hernan Perez if need be.

Fixed. And I’m not a huge Hernan guy.

Moore was part of a 3 team deal with the Braves and Marlins on August 24, 2016. Rangers (who drafted Moore in the 7th round) got back a total of 3 international bonus slots. Atlanta got Moore and another minor leaguer. Marlins got Francoeur.

After shining in the AFL in 2016 with a .914 OPS, he struggled in the Atlanta organization all of 2017. Maybe he just had trouble adjusting and just didn't fit in there.

Atlanta has had a stacked organization for the last several years so the fact he cracked their top 30 and was thought highly enough to be sent to the AFL means he wasn't just roster filler. Brewers gave him a fresh chance and he's making the most of it. He fits the profile of what the Brewers like on their roster around their core, and that's versatility.

He continues to make starts at SS, including yesterday's game. I am really starting to think the Brewers might replace Sogard with Moore. If Moore can play SS adequately I agree that he has passed up Orf, a couple of years younger as well. It would also be nice to have another utility guy that they could option when managing the roster. Could also see if they have a cheap replacement for Perez down the road.

How long before Moore earns a call up? He can't be worse than sogard.
