Hopefully the third time through is the charm for the Brewers here.

Coming into this game Cain had never struck out against Odorizzi in 16 career plate appearances, but 2 K’s today.

Yelich is now 0-for-10 with 6 strikeouts in his career versus Odorizzi, ouch.

Jesus. That ball was hammered.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

What a weird problem. Jesus should not be out of the lineup. When Thames comes back, he should always be hitting against RHP. Great thing to have to work on..

Get him some reps at catcher?

That base knock by Perez will have him expanding his zone even more now.

The lineup looks perfectly suited for the DH which should come in handy during the World Series road games this year. :)

If the defense can ask for the base umpire’s help on a check swing call why can’t the hitter? Either way, it did look like Villar offered there.

The defense can’t ask. Only the home plate umpire can. Catchers often point to the base umpire when they think a batter went around, but the base umpire will only respond if the home plate ump asks.

Also, it may seem skewed because the only time a batter wants the base umpire to appeal is when the home plate ump has already said they went around...in which case they will never say “you know what, maybe I was wrong, let’s ask for help now.”

I know that is how it is supposed to work, but it seems rare an umpire ever refuses to oblige when the catcher reacts to what they believe is an offered swing. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a home plate umpire willing to check his call after he has just called a batter out on the swing.
