If Perez is set to go this weekend, I'd like to see Choi get the call - at least until Monday. Perez can be the 4th OF and Choi can DH. Then swap him and Phillips when they return home next week.

My guess is they go with Phillips and let Santana DH though.

brett phillips could be recalled now with the disabled list move. if not, he is eligible to be recalled on monday after the series in an american league park and use of the dh. i'm predicting ji-man choi recalled tomorrow, and optioned back after sunday's series finale, with phillips taking his place.

I think it will (and probably should) be Choi. I still really like Phillips, but he has to get regular ABs. I don't think yo-yo-ing him for sporadic appearances is worth it.

Now, if they commit to starting him all three at Target field, maybe, but then I'd rather he be the one exchanged for Choi on Monday. With Cain, Yelich, and Santana, I think it is going to be tough to find many starts for Phillips, whereas Choi can plug in at 1B a lot, and Perez can handle an OF spot if necessary.

Choi hasn't played since the 12th because of an injury. It will be interesting to see if he's back in the lineup tonight for Colorado Springs.

It's maddening that we went from having what was perceived as too many 1Bs, to having possibly none available to DH this weekend.

After all this discussion watch it be Sogard. :laughing

No hints from the Colorado Springs lineup tonight. Everyone you would reasonably expect to be in is in.

I would jump off my Brewer’s fandom cliff if THAT happened lol oh my word

Or Santana can DH. Creates a nice opening in RF for Phillips to play every day.

Choi went 2-2 in his return from illness, and then was replaced. I'd think he's going to meet the Crew in Minnesota.

I am excited they went the "offensive" route for the weekend. Expected Phillips. But more than happy to see them extend the lineup and hope Choi just gets plugged in for some 1b/dh time. See what he can do!

I agree. Excited to see what Choi can do. He has done well through spring training, his 1 AB in San Diego, and in the minors so I'm glad they are giving him a shot.

Cain

Yelich

Aguilar

Shaw

Santana

Choi

Pina

Villar

Arcia

Looks like a solid lineup!

Is it bad that I think that looks better than having Braun anywhere in there... I'd love to see them have a breakout series with like 25 runs.

I'm just not sold on Choi. He had a nice spring, and got a big hit in Game #1, but nothing else in his major league career has indicated that he is anything but a replacement-level bat. But it makes sense to bring up Choi and not Phillips, as with Santana finally hitting better, Phillips was only going to get sporadic playing time.

My hope is this 10-day stint gets Braun healthy enough to serve as the everyday DH by the time the next pair of road series in AL parks happens to start off June. And hopefully the consistent playing time Santana gets now will really get that bat going - to the point that when Braun returns it's a bit lower in the order as the #5 hitter.

The lineup should be mixed up a bit but I won't hold my breath.

vs. LHP:

1. Cain- CF

2. Yelich- LF

3. Santana- DH

4. Shaw- 3B

5. Aguilar- 1B

6. Perez- RF

7. Villar- 2B / Perez- 2B

8. Pina- C

9. Arcia- SS

vs. RHP:

1. Villar- 2B

2. Yelich- LF

3. Cain- CF

4. Shaw- 3B

5. Santana- RF

6. Choi- DH

7. Aguilar- 1B

8. Pina- C

9. Arcia- SS

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I agree. Just seems so much more likely that a guy in his prime like Aguilar or Choi will have a career year than it is that Braun will turn back the clock. It's such a drag seeing him in the 3 hole and not knowing if he's going to be able to play even if he's not on the DL. Really looking forward to the end of the whole era of counting on washed-up players when younger guys really deserve that opportunity.
