I think Sophia has grown as a sideline reporter and provides value to the broadcast... Why the heck would anyone want to pick on Sophia Minnaert? She does her job well, Wisconsin homegrown talent, and she never causes any negative drama. "COME ON, MAN"

She does a real nice job. Not quite as good as Treni. My only beef is Sophia’s accent is pretty severe. After not living there full time since I was 18, sometimes it hits me hearing her

People who complain about sideline reporters are really searching for something to complain about.......my goodness.....

Unfortunately with all media this is the common trope.

I work in local media and people will find the pettiest things to complain about. Hair, makeup, voice, etc.

Journalism and Broadcast in general is a competitive business. These people got and have these jobs for a reason.

All that being said, Wisconsin in general is spoiled rotten with a very good broadcast team (TV and Radio) on almost all sports.

Sophia does a great job and the bi-lingual aspect of her reporting will easily grant her a path out of Milwaukee when her contract is up if she wants to leave, to which I hope she doesn't.

I think a lot of people undervalue the importance of having a reporter that has experience with the team. Telly and Sophia both have built personal relationships with coaches, managers, front office, etc. Elevates the level of reporting and knowledge of reporting a ton. Ad-libbing in front of a camera isn't always the easiest thing, especially with just a paper script in your hand.

I don't really care since I pay little attention to the sideline reporting, and there's very little of it. What I do think is kind of weird is when a player has a dramatic moment, maybe a walk-off HR or something and Sophia has a mic in their face like 10 seconds later. Give them some time to enjoy and savor the moment! Not saying it's Sophia's fault, I'm sure that's what she's told to do.

My biggest complaint with the entire broadcast is that they only air a little bit of CC presser. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I much rather hear/watch the entire press conference every night than hear Auggie babble on about the bahwclub.

I wish they'd use more of the sideline reporter in-game. I like that some of the national broadcasts regularly talk to the sideline reporter next to the dugout (Olney, Rosenthal, etc.). I think that insight into the dugout is entertaining.

Wow, tough crowd...

Certain things bother other people on here like the way BA says "Pina", LePay's "break-even pitch", well mine is when Sophia Minnaert comes on the air to say something like,

"I talked to Craig Counsell and he said certainly Brandon Woodruff pitched really well yesterday. He said he has to improve his fastball location though. He said certainly he deserves to make another start. He said he does have very good stuff. He said he's a young, improving pitcher. He said he said he said he said"

Yeah she speaks good Spanish and that's good and all, yeah she's better than Telly Hughes, wow that's setting the bar pretty high.

I guess instead of having your own opinions on here you gotta go with the groupthink and only post things like "WHY IS ERIC SOGARD PLAYING TODAY OH MY GOD"

RWeeksFan23 - I love the clap back. It was perfectly written.

Cheers!

I understand how easy is to get annoyed by things when you see them over and over. But I try to step back and realize that it's kind of the nature of it when you're dealing with 162 games and you watch almost every one and baseball requires a lot of dead air to be filled. So I realize it's not really their fault and try to take that into account to cut some slack. Same would apply to the examples you give, and there's several Rock talking points that he repeats over and over (according to him it's almost like nothing good could come from pulling the ball). Also, think about people you encounter every day in your jobs who have things they repeat over and over. Almost everyone does it to a degree.

I had MLB network on last night for maybe the Houston game?, and they had a bit with the sideline reporter and she botched the whole thing and they all just ended up laughing about how she fumbled her way through it. It was actually entertaining in a way since they had fun with it, but they basically just laughed and joked with each other at how badly she did her job.

Meh, I don't think most people that responded think you aren't entitled to your opinion about her. By the response I guess we can say there aren't many that agree with you.

If there were someone that pushed my buttons and nobody else agreed that wouldn't make me suddenly change my mind either.

This will probably be unpopular because of his recent passing, but I was bothered immensely by Davey Nelson in his broadcast role. I thought he was tragically bad. To be clear, I didn't let that get in the way of recognizing that Davey the person was a really great dude and I respected his past as a player and coach. But there were times I would just change the channel rather than try to listen to him stutter and stammer his way through whatever comment he was trying to make. I felt bad for him.

You can have your own opinion, but it seems the entire “group” isn’t with you. It’s also probably not going to go well when we use one of the most popular forums and post a discussion about the sideline reporter that has zero effect on just about everything.

These kind of threads are probably better off in the off topic area where we talk about other silly pointless things. When you post something (let’s be honest) pretty pointless in the MLB forum you are going to get way more feedback than it probably deserves.

Yeah, I guess I was curious what other people thought of her.. I mean like SeaBass said Davey Nelson was bad and everyone knew it, Augustine is bad and everyone knows it, etc. I haven't seen much talk about Sophia Minnaert on here good or bad.

I'm not a huge fan of sideline reporters in general, but if the network feels they need to have one, she does a fine job with it. I would say she's even provided a decent news tidbit here and there. Plus, putting a pretty girl on camera every few innings certainly isn't going to hurt ratings with the demographic typically tuned into Brewer games, so I get why they do it. She seems knowledgable about the team, though, and the players seem to like and respect her, which I imagine in that role doesn't always happen.

Now, if the conversation were to turn to Craig Coshun's Pizza Ranch Chocolate Cactus Bread commercial, my feelings would skew much more negatively ;)

I'm even more upset about Coshun's commercial because the chocolate cactus bread is not good at all. Stick with the regular cactus bread folks :laughing

Not related to her but since someone mentioned it, hearing Lepay say "break even pitch" basically every time there is a 1-1 count does get a tad old.

like nails on a chalkboard , and makes as much sense as Jason Bateman in Dodgeball made
