Biloxi hitters were mostly cold, but the team got a pair of walks - followed by an HR from Gatewood - in the bottom of the 8th to secure the victory.

I wonder what the odds would have been on Orf and Segovia homering on the same day.

Also, here's hoping Henry can keep this pace up.

With you on Henry. If he does, he's going to move well up the prospect list the next time it comes out.

Final: Wisconsin 10, Beloit 3

Rattlers Win Big Over Beloit

Wisconsin bangs out 16 hits in a 10-3 win to start series with Snappers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won their fourth straight game with a 10-3 victory over the Beloit Snappers on Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Timber Rattlers offense collected 16 hits in the game, rallied from an early deficit, and blew the game open with a five-run sixth inning.

Joantgel Segovia put the Timber Rattlers (17-19) in front in the first inning. The Wisconsin lead-off batter lifted a flyball over the fence in left for his first home run of the season. Later in the first, Demi Orimoloye tripled to drive home Payton Henry for a 2-0 lead.

The Snappers (13-18) tied the game in the top of the third inning. Jordan Devencenzi hit a homer to start the inning. Nick Allen followed with a single and an errant pickoff throw by Wisconsin starter Alec Bettinger allowed Allen to take third. Trace Loehr got Allen home with a sacrifice fly.

Beloit took the lead in the fourth. Logan Farrar doubled to start the inning, but he was still at second base with two outs. Jesus Lopez delivered a two-out single to drive in Farrar and the Snappers were up 3-2.

Orimoloye erased that lead in the fifth inning. Henry, who had four hits on Monday night, singled with two outs to get the inning to Orimoloye. The Wisconsin left fielder crushed a 3-1 pitch over the batters' eye in center field for a two-run homer and a 4-3 Wisconsin lead.

The Rattlers poured in on the Snappers with two outs in the sixth inning to put the game away. KJ Harrison was at first with two outs when Nick Roscetti dropped a bunt single. Segovia was next and he doubled to left to score Harrison. Tristen Lutz followed with a two-run single and that knocked Beloit starter Xavier Altamirano out of the game.

Henry greeted reliever Joshua Reagan with a triple to right-center that scored Lutz. Henry scored the fifth and final run of the inning on a wild pitch and the Rattlers were up 9-3.

The Rattlers tacked on one more run in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Gabriel García.

Bettinger tossed six innings as the starting pitcher for the Rattlers. He allowed three runs - two earned - and struck out five. Bettinger's start was the fifth straight quality start by Wisconsin's pitchers.

Braulio Ortiz worked a scoreless seventh and eighth to maintain the lead. Matt Hardy worked a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game.

Segovia went 3-for-5 on Monday to raise his batting average to .410. He also moved his current on-base streak to 27 games. Segovia has been on base in 30 of the 31 games he has played for Wisconsin this season.

The Timber Rattlers and Snappers will play two on Tuesday afternoon. The game between the teams at Pohlman Field in Beloit on April 6 was frozen out and postponed to May 15. First pitch for game one is 12:05pm. The Rattlers have named Bowden Francis (1-1, 3.60) and Carlos Herrera (0-2, 5.33) as their starting pitchers. Beloit plans on Jared Poché (0-1, 3.38) and Bryce Conley (1-2, 5.74) as their starters. Both games of the twinbill are scheduled for seven innings. Game two will start approximately thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Wisconsin Box Score

The Wisconsin offense continues to surge, all the way up to 4th in team batting average after being dead last a few weeks ago. Even better, they are third in team OPS. Payton Henry's 4-5 day doesn't even get him player of the day honors, which went to Demi Orimoloye with his 2 hit (triple, home run) and 1 walk effort. Joantgel Segovia, who has hits in all but 5 games this season and multiple hits in 17 of 31 games, collected 3 hits himself, including his second professional long ball. Tristen Lutz, KJ Harrison, and Nick Roscetti each had two hits. Roscetti is hitting .353 and at 24 years of age, should probably be promoted soon

Alec Bettinger continues to pitch well despite a subpar ERA. He went 6 full innings for the third straight start, allowing 2 runs. Braulio Ortiz, a 6'7 behemoth who had all kinds of troubles with Helena last summer, continues to quietly put together a case to get excited about him. He pitched 2 scoreless with 1 walks, 2 hits allowed, and 4 strikeouts. He throws legit mid-upper 90's fastball with late bite and a short late-breaking curve, but has a bit of a goofy arm motion that tends to get out of whack (see: 17 walks in 12 innings pitched). When he's throwing quality strikes, he's a legit big league prospect. Just have to make those quality strikes much less infrequent.

Final: Colorado Springs 8, Oklahoma City 5

ORF, OPITZ HOMER IN SKY SOX THIRD STRAIGHT WIN OVER DODGERS

cut.JPG

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox won their third straight game against the Oklahoma City Dodgers and took the series at Security Service Field on Monday night with an 8-5 victory. Colorado Springs is now a half game back of the Dodgers in the American North standings.

The Sky Sox started the offense in the early goings with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After leadoff Nate Orf walked on four pitches, Tyrone Taylor made it a second and third situation with his double to left field. During Christian Bethancourt's at-bat, a wild pitch by Dodgers' Manny Banuelos would plate Orf as the first run while Keon Broxton's sixth double of the year would bring around the next two, making it a 3-0 Sky Sox advantage.

In the second inning, Orf, who totaled nine home runs last season, smacked his first home run of 2018 at Security Service Field to extend Colorado Springs' lead to 4-0.

Scoreless until the sixth, Oklahoma City found their way onto the board when Alex Verdugo led off the inning with a single and Kyle Garlick lifted a ball over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Dodgers continued to add on in the seventh, putting up a solo run manufactured on three straight singles to make it a 4-3 ballgame.

In the seventh, the Sky Sox added two insurance runs to extend the lead to 6-3. Shane Opitz (walk), Orf (single), and Eric Sogard (single) combined to load the bases with no outs. Tyrone Taylor knocked a deep fly ball to right field to plate one run while Bethancourt singled to plate the sixth run.

Opitz capped off the night for Colorado Springs' scoring in the eighth after slugging his first home run of the season - a two-run towering fly ball over the right-field wall - making it an 8-3 advantage.

The insurance would come in handy as Oklahoma City put together a late rally off of closer Radhames Liz. After Liz surrendered a leadoff single and two consecutive extra-base hits, he continued on to strike out the next two batters. Tim Dillard finished off the three-hour and thirteen-minute game with a two-pitch groundout to Garlick to make it a final 8-5 Sky Sox win.

The Sky Sox continue into the final game of the series against the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Security Service Field tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. Following tomorrow's game against the Dodgers, the Sky Sox will welcome to town the Memphis Redbirds, top affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Colorado Springs Box Score

#FreeNateOrf on base 3 more times, including his first home run on the year. Eric Sogard and Keon Broxton both had much-needed 2 hit games, and Tyrone Taylor had 2 hits as well. Taylor and Broxton may be battling for a 40-man roster spot as the season progresses. I doubt they carry both on the 40-man at the same time.
