Final: Nashville 4, Colorado Springs 3

NASHVILLE EVENS SERIES AS SKY SOX DROP FINAL GAME OF ROAD TRIP

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After taking the first two games of this four-game series against Nashville, the Sky Sox dropped games three and four to even the series at two apiece before heading back home for an eight game, nine day homestand in Colorado Springs. The Sounds won the final game of the series 4-3 Friday night.

In the final game of this four-game series the Sky Sox wasted no time putting runs on the board. In the top of the first inning Keon Broxton became Colorado Springs' first baserunner, reaching by way of hit-by-pitch. A passed ball advanced Broxton to second, and a wild pitch advanced him to third. Eric Sogard singled for the Sky Sox first hit and first RBI of the game to make it 1-0. Jacob Nottingham was also hit-by-pitch to put two on, and a Christian Bethancourt double cleared the bases to make it 3-0 Sky Sox.

The home team responded in the bottom of the second, taking back the lead. Josh Phegley drew a walk to start the inning, followed by a Sheldon Neuse single. Slade Heathcott singled to load the bases, and a Jorge Mateo double scored Phegley and Neuse to make it 3-2. Nick Martini singled for the Sounds fourth hit in a row, scoring both Heathcott and Mateo to take the lead at 4-3.

Though both teams had numerous baserunners and collected a number of hits throughout the remainder of the game, there would be no further runs scored after the second inning. After seven scoreless frames of baseball, Nashville still held a 4-3 lead to take game four and split the series with the Sky Sox.

The Sky Sox return to Security Service Field Saturday for an eight-game, nine-day homestand where they will host the Oklahoma City Dodgers and Memphis Redbirds.

Tomorrow's Expectation: In the first game of both the homestand and the four-game series against the Oklahoma City Dodgers, the Sky Sox are sending righty Freddy Peralta to the mound to face right-hander Tyler Pill for the Dodgers, as Peralta looks to pick up his sixth win of the season and Pill looks to pick up his first.

Game 3 Blues: Half of Colorado Springs' 12 losses have came by way of game three's this season. With the loss to Nashville in game three Thursday night, the Sky Sox fall to 3-6 in game three's in 2018.

Final: Wisconsin 6, Great Lakes 0

File Ks 10 over Eight Scoreless as Rattlers Shutout Loons

Wisconsin beats Great Lakes 6-0

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

cut.jpg

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Dylan File struck out ten Great Lakes Loons batters over eight scoreless innings on Friday Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium to earn his fifth win of the season. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers right-hander got plenty of support from the offense and cruised to a 6-0 victory.

Wisconsin (15-19) went up early with a four-run second inning. Gilbert Lara started the inning with a single that extended his hitting streak to thirteen games. Zach Clark followed with a single. Then, Payton Henry moved his hitting streak to ten games with an infield single up the third base line. The throw to first was wild and Lara scored as Clark and Henry each moved up a base. Gabriel García was next and he cracked a double to score both runners. Later in the inning, García scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.

García added to the lead in the fourth inning. He tripled with two outs and scored on a balk by Great Lakes starting pitcher Max Gamboa.

Tristen Lutz made it 6-0 in favor of the Rattlers in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single to score Devin Hairston with the final run of the game.

The Loons (10-22) didn't have a real threat against File until the eighth inning when the first two batters of the inning reached. File, who has now won four straight starts, got the first out of the inning with a flyout to center. Then, he finished his night with back-to-back strikeouts to stop the Great Lakes rally cold and allow him to reach double digits in strikeouts.

File allowed four hits and walked one while setting a new single-game high as a professional for innings pitched (eight) and strikeouts (ten).

Gabe Friese took over in the top of the ninth inning and tossed a scoreless frame to close out the game to give the Rattlers their first shutout of the season.

Joantgel Segovia went 3-for-5 on Friday night to continue his season-long offensive onslaught. The Rattlers outfielder has reached base in 28 of the 29 games he has played this season. He moved his current on-base streak to 25 games and his hitting streak to 14 games. Segovia's three hits bumped his batting average for 2018 to .409.

The win was the second in a row for Wisconsin.

The final game of the series is Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Christian Taugner (0-4, 5.10) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Wills Montgomerie (-1, 1.61) is set to start for the Loons. Game time is 1:05pm.
