I feel like Villar has had some good at-bats, seeing 5-7 pitches a crack but it always seems like it still ends in a K. Ends up swinging through something. It is just so strange.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I had so much hope for Villar after 2016. He looked like a young ascending star that we flat out stole from Houston. His blend of power and speed as a middle infielder made it easy to forgive his choppy defense.

I had the same hopes for Broxton after his 2nd half in 2016, but Villar doing it for a full season made it seem more real.

Unfortunately he just hasn’t been able to build on that and solidify himself as a lineup mainstay. I guess we can only be glad he didn’t take our extension offer.

Well, at least we split this series. Could be worse.

How does a double down the right field line somehow turn into a triple?

Santana had a long way to go and instead of bouncing out back towards the field, it kind of stuck in the corner.

There could have been some pressure to maintain his success after denying the extension.

How does Coles seriously still have a job?

I know it’s not all his fault but this was supposed to be the one part of our team we didn’t need to worry about and here we are still just leaving off from the second half of 2017. Broxton gone. Cain here. Yelich here. Problems also still here. Sure they’ve cut down on strikeouts, which has accomplished absolutely nothing.

At some point you just have to hold the guy in charge accountable and give someone else a shot to get through to these guys.

That was truly impressive. In the 8th inning, 3 guys see 6 pitches combined and get themselves out. Well done!

To be fair, Pina, Arcia and Perez were the batters and saw about 3 more pitches than I expected them to.

If you told me yesterday afternoon that we'd split a 2 game series with Suter and Guerra starting against Kluber and Carrasco...I'd be pretty thrilled.

Great point. It is easy for us to be so negative because they are giving us a ton of reasons to be but they are still in the mix for most wins in the NL. Hopefully, this will get turned around and we'll all have a good laugh about all the stuff we have said about these guys.

It's why you should trade guys like that after their hot/career year. Just like they did with Gomez. Anderson, Broxton, Villar, Pina, Knebel, etc. Especially while rebuilding. You may get burned by one of them for trading them away, but for the most part it will be the right decision.

I tend to agree. Being on our A game right now isn't as important as it will be in August and September. Just scratch out the wins and put ourselves in a position to add at the deadline, and hopefully have guys get hot and make a run.

That very well may have been the original plan. Winning 86 last year meant those plans changed.

Braun, Shaw, Santana, Guerra etc. But no, we just had to trade for major league players to make our record respectable.

You'd think, from most of the comments, we had the Reds' record, not tied for the divisional lead going into today.

My comments were specific to the offense, which has stunk for years and continues to stink, and they are not going to contend until that changes.

Million dollar question, did Stearns want to continue rebuilding or did Mark A want to move the needle more to the "compete" side of the dial? Just knowing Mark A, I would bet he wanted to compete this year, without giving up too many prospects/ money. (Not all-in.) So many of us recognized last season as fool's gold, I just have to believe Stearns knew it too.

They are at 3.70 runs per game this year which would put this team as fourth worst in Brewers history, right ahead of the '71, '72, and '76 teams.

No, this is Stearns. As I said before, I have no idea why he had to have Shaw in the Thornburg trade or Anderson in the Segura trade. You get those guys when you're ready to contend and have holes to fill, not in the middle of a rebuild.
