I like Freddy Peralta.

Final: Colorado Springs 5, Oklahoma City 3

For now, the only online location for the text below is right here :)

PERALTA SHINES AS SKY SOX HAND DODGERS FIRST HOME LOSS

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – After dropping the first three games of this four-game series, the Sky Sox rallied to take game four on Monday morning to avoid the sweep, defeating the Dodgers 5-3 to hand Oklahoma City their first home loss of the season.

After scoring only four total runs in the first three games of this series (one on both Friday and Saturday, two on Sunday), the Sky Sox started game four off by scoring four runs in the top of the second alone, sending eight men to the plate in the inning. Ji-Man Choi hit a solo home run in the first at-bat of the second frame, exactly as he did in yesterday's contest. Shane Opitz reached on a one-out single, then scored on a Gabriel Noriega double. Quintin Berry tacked on an RBI single to make it 3-0, moving up to second on a Freddy Peralta sacrifice bunt. Kyle Wren singled to right field to score Berry from second and put the Sky Sox up 4-0 early.

Peralta struck out Jake Peter to start off the bottom of the fourth inning, marking his sixth strikeout of the day through ten batters, all of whom Peralta had retired. Donovan Solano drew a four-pitch walk in the next at-bat to give Oklahoma City their first baserunner of the day, followed by another walk to Rob Segedin to put two on for the Dodgers. Henry Ramos, who has been especially good at home in Oklahoma City this season, struck out for the second out of the inning and Peralta's seventh strikeout victim of the day. Travis Taijeron struck out as well to end the inning, as Peralta left the two men he walked stranded with his eighth strikeout in four innings.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning Rocky Gale lined a single for the Dodgers' first hit of the day. Mike Ahmed followed that up with another single to put two on, with a deep fly advancing both runners to second and third with two outs. Peter drew a walk to nearly load the bases, but Colorado Springs catcher Christian Bethancourt threw down to third behind Gale after ball four to Peter, picking Gale off at third in a heads-up play to end the inning and cut the Oklahoma rally short.

After four innings without a score change, Colorado Springs scored again in the top of the seventh to extend their lead. Berry drew a five-pitch walk, then promptly stole second for his first steal of the season. Wren singled to score Berry from second, just as he had done in the second inning, to make it 5-0.

The Dodgers didn't go quietly, however, putting together a rally in the bottom of the final frame in an attempt to keep their home winning streak alive. Danny Espinosa led off the inning with a single, followed by a single off the bat of Gale. Logan Landon broke the shutout with an RBI force out to make it 5-1 for his first RBI with OKC this season. Peter singled to score Landon and keep the game alive as the Dodgers made it 5-2 with just one out left to work with. Solano singled to score Peter and cut the Sky Sox lead to just two runs, but a Segedin strikeout brought the game, the rally, and the winning streak to and end as Colorado Springs won with a final of 5-3.

Tomorrow's Expectation: In the first game of the four-game series against the Nashville Sounds the Sky Sox are sending righty Alec Asher to the mound to face fellow righty James Naile for Nashville. The last time Colorado Springs played Nashville was less than a week ago on 5/3, when the contest was suspended after eight innings due to travel restraints.

Strikeout City: Freddy Peralta struck out eight batters through four innings on Monday, the day after Corbin Burnes struck out 13 batters through seven innings. That's 21 strikeouts through 11 innings between Peralta's and Burnes' back-to-back starts.

Perfect No More: With the win Sunday afternoon the Dodgers improved to a perfect 15-0 at home in Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, but the Sky Sox ended that streak with a win on Monday.

Tomorrow's first game against the Nashville Sounds is scheduled for 6:35 PM Central at First Tennessee Park. The Sky Sox return to Security Service Field for an eight-game, nine-day homestand on May 12 where they will host Oklahoma City and the Memphis Redbirds.

Box Score / Game Log

Nate Orf not in the lineup today, leading to (so far) random speculation.

The Sky Sox are an awesome 19-11, but as the PCL standings show, this was a big win over OKC. Only the division winner makes the postseason, no split-season at AAA.

Pitches-strikes: Peralta 94-57 -- Five innings (three walks, eight K's).

Via the road newspaper report on the Mudcats' game --

BUIES CREEK – The team leading the Advanced A Carolina League in shutouts found itself on the wrong end of a blanking Monday evening at Campbell University’s Jim Perry Stadium.

The visiting Carolina Mudcats sent the Buies Creek Astros to a third consecutive loss behind the pitching of starter Cam Roegner and reliever Miguel Sanchez, who scattered three hits and allowed just five runners to reach base in a 5-0 victory.

Roegner surrendered the first two Astros’ hits while working 6.2 innings. The 6-foot-6 left-hander posted a 1.35 earned run average in his first five starts this season, but lowered that with Tuesday’s performance that improved his record to 3-1.

Sanchez retired seven of the eight batters he faced to seal just the second shut out of the Astros this season. The Mudcats (15-16) also delivered the only other shutout against Buies Creek, a 3-0 blanking on April 21st.

The Buies Creek pitching staff has been the best at shutting out opponents in the Carolina League so far this season, delivering nine over the first month-and-half. But Monday it was Roegner and the Mudcats that had the honor.

“We faced a good pitcher who was throwing strikes and was difficult in the zone,″ Buies Creek manager Morgan Ensberg said. “We didn’t quite get that pitch to hit. We hit a couple of balls hard. But it was soft contact or strikeouts, and we just couldn’t put any pressure on them with baserunners.

“In a 140-game season, you’re going to have games like this. But he (Roegner) did a great job.″

Rattlers Rally for 6-5 Walkoff Win over Lansing

Wisconsin wins fifth straight game

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Box Score

Wisconsin's team batting average has risen more than 40 points over the past few weeks, all the way up to .257 now. Which is actually good for 5th best in the league. They still have the fifth-fewest walks and the most strikeouts, but hey, progress.

With two caught stealings today, Payton Henry has thrown out 11 of 28 baserunners, also known as a very solid 39%. I think it's safe to say he's been a pleasant surprise defensively. He also had two hits, including his third long ball, hence his picture at the top of the post there. Demi Orimoloye pushed his average above .300 with two hits of his own; the third Rattler with two hits, Nick Roscetti, is now hitting .370 and is someone who should probably be moved up to Carolina soon. The 24-year-old also scored on an unorthodox walk-off - see below.

Jose Cuas, pitching in his second professional game and first since becoming a father, picked up his first professional win with a scoreless inning and a third to finish out the game.

Wisconsin Game Log

Wisconsin Bottom of the 9th

Nick Roscetti singles on a line drive to left fielder Brock Lundquist.

With Joantgel Segovia batting, passed ball by Matt Morgan, Nick Roscetti to 2nd.

Joantgel Segovia hits a sacrifice bunt. Nick Roscetti scores. Joantgel Segovia to 1st. Throwing error by pitcher Ty Tice.

Payton Henry is on a really nice hot streak right now. Be nice to have a decent catching prospect.
