I think Hiura is getting used to this minor league baseball thing.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Final: Biloxi 6, Jacksonville 4

Comeback Win Led By Rijo Two Homer Night

Erceg Hits Go-Ahead Homer as Brown Ties Career High in K's

Biloxi Box Score

Biloxi Game Log

This was a bit of a wild one, and fortunately the Shuckers got the win. They seemed gifted a run in the second inning when Tyler Heineman lead off with a walk, and reached third with nobody out off a couple wild pitches. But, Heineman would have to wait until the 7th to cross home plate. Each team also failed to score with bases loaded and 1 out, Biloxi in the 5th and Jacksonville in the 7th. The Biloxi bats did record 10 hits, 3 HR, 2 2B and 6 BBs, and that was enough to get the edge. Besides the 3rd inning troubles, there is a lot to like about Zack Brown's evening, especially the 8 Ks and 12 groundouts.

Turning point of the game:

Biloxi Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Jose Quijada replaces Kolton Mahoney, batting 9th, replacing Skyler Ewing.

Corey Ray strikes out swinging.

Troy Stokes Jr. singles on a fly ball to right fielder John Norwood.

With Lucas Erceg batting, Troy Stokes Jr. steals (5) 2nd base.

Lucas Erceg homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Troy Stokes Jr. scores.

Tyler Heineman singles on a ground ball to right fielder John Norwood.

Pitching Change: Esmerling De La Rosa replaces Jose Quijada, batting 9th.

Jake Gatewood doubles (2) on a ground ball to left fielder Kyle Barrett. Tyler Heineman scores.

Clint Coulter flies out to right fielder John Norwood.

Jake Hager pops out to catcher Rodrigo Vigil in foul territory.

Quick Notes:

Biloxi Batting:

Troy Stokes Jr. 2-5, SB, R

Lucas Erceg 2-5, HR, 2 RBI

Wendell Rijo 3-3, 2B, 2 HR, BB, 2 R, 3 RBI

Biloxi Pitching:

Zack Brown 6.1 IP, 5H, 4R, 1ER, 2BB, 8K

Boone Logan 0.0, 1H, 1BB

Jon Olczak 0.2, 1K

Q T-C 0.2, 1H, 1BB, 2K

Nate Griep 1.1 IP

Jacksonville:

Isan Diaz 0-3 2BB (.198)

Monte Harrison 2-5, 2B (.260)

Box Score / Game Log

Kansas native and Oklahoma State product Jon Perrin pitched in relief before the OKC locals.

Keon Broxton 0-for-3 with three K's. Thirty-nine K's in 100 AB's, so not hard to figure that "K" percentage. Been batting near the bottom of the AAA lineup for a couple of weeks now.

Look for Timber Rattler details on their 6-3 win in a bit, but here's a Zack Clark tidbit:

Clark has three HR's and three triples in his 17 games thus far, which is nice. In each game he's homered, he has also combined it with a triple.

Also, out of Fort Wayne:

The TinCaps were bound to lose eventually, but it didn't seem like it would be tonight. Facing pitcher Alec Bettinger, who came in with a 7.85 ERA, Fort Wayne figured to have a field day after racking up 30 hits in the previous three games against a stingy Beloit Snappers pitching staff.

Instead, Bettinger was superb, mixing his fastball locations and generally keeping the TinCaps off balance throughout the game. He said afterward that he felt he'd "pigeonholed" himself into one spot with his fastball in his first few starts of the season and he felt that moving it around tonight was the key to his first win of the year.
