All April Team

Brewers All-April Team

Some tough choices for good and bad reasons. I tried to go with guys who are playing at least close to average at. 25 in AA for Hager and Moore and Orf (who I love) at 28 in AAA got bounced to focus on younger prospects. At 1B, Choi tops Gideon due to similar numbers but outstanding 17 to 22% BB to K%. Lara didn’t play a ton of 3B in April with Hairston out but now is there again, he beats out Erceg because no one under 100 wRC+ should make the list. Neuhaus with Orf & Hager out of running and him play most of the games at 2B for Huira, he was best choice. Demi beat out Stokes in my eyes because of higher average and much better K rate. Love the walks but Stokes is at 33% K%. Nottingham and Dubon have been to of the best in system but both are not walking enough (4 between the 2 of them).

1B Ji-Man Choi

.270/ .385/ .405 .790 OPS ---7 2B, 1 HR,111 wRC+, .123 ISO, 17/ 22 BB/K%

2B Tucker Neuhaus (22 Starts at 2B)

264/ .306/ .462 .768 OPS--- 6 2B, 4 HR, 114 wRC+, .208 ISO, 5/33 BB/K%

SS Mauricio Dubon

.322/.322/.529 --- .851 OPS ---7 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR--- 119 wRC+, .247 ISO, 1/ 16 BB/K in just under 90 PAs

On Road: .306/.324/.472 4XBH (out of 11)

3B Gilbert Lara

.291/.333/.443 .776 OPS --- 6 2B, 2 HR, 112 wRC+, .145 ISO, 6/20 BB/K%

C Jacob Nottingham

.396/ .431/.750 1.181OPS --- 6 2B 1 3B 3HRs -- 190 wRC+ .356 ISO 5/26 BB/K% in just under 60 PAs

In only 3 road games .333/ .400/ .556 2 XBH (out of 10)

LF Tyrone Taylor

.333 /.364/.569 .932 OPS --- 2 HR, 2 2B, 2 3B --- 141 wRC+, .224 ISO, 6/12 BB/K%

On Road: 7 G .240/ .296/ .480

CF Joantgel Segovia

.351/.415/.432 .847 OPS --- 2 2B, 1 3B, 142 wRC+ .081 ISO, 7/13 BB/K%

RF Demi Orimoloye

.270/.341/.473 .814 OPS --- 3 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 132 wRC+, .195 ISO, 7/19 BB/K%

SP 1. Bowden Francis

19 IP | 9.5/0.5 k/bb per 9 | 27.5 to 1.5 k/bb% | .239 BAA, 0.95 Whip .320 BABIP 2.64 FIP

Best SP of the season thus far….. No one really close to matching all around numbers

SP 2. Trey Supak

25.1 IP | 9.2/3.5 K/BB per 9 | 25.7% to 9.9% k/bb% | .193 BAA 1.07 WHIP, .260 Babip 3.47 FIP

Walks and questionably low babip thing hurting him and helping him.

SP 3 Thomas Jankins

31 IP | 7.5/2.0 k/bb per 9 | 21.1 to 5.7 k/bb% | .252 BAA 1.16 WHIP .318 BABIP 3.00 FIP

Add some more K’s and he would be

SP 4 Freddy Peralta

29.1IP |11.5/4 k/bb per 9 | 25/10 k/bb% | . BAA WHIP BABIP 3.47 FIP

Walks still too high, outstanding outside of the one blow up game in CS

SP 5 Luis Ortiz

21.1 IP | 9.3/2.9 k/bb per 9 | 24.7% to 7.9% k/bb% | .220BAA, 1.17 WHIP, .263 BABIP, 4.24 FIP

HRs hurt FIP, .263 BABIP won’t hold up….

Woodruff, Ponce, Roegner all got serious consideration. Ponce and Roegnar’s WHIPs both over 1.40 turned me off and Woody has been outstanding Peralta better since K’s are down and BB’ing a good amount.

RP

1. Quinton Torres Costa

2. Michael Peterson

3. Miguel Sanchez

4. Tristan Archer

QTC is most dominant pitcher in our system as a RP. Peterson, Sanchez, and Archer all are older but big K guys with very few walks. Archer has a very high babip that has killed his other numbers a bit.

You indicated you lean more to younger prospects but have to at least mention Nick Ramirez, maybe not the best stuff but the results have been there since he switched to pitching. Really good April between AA/AAA.

Bubba Derby has also done pretty well in AAA considering the environment. Would like to see the walks go down and strikeouts up but overall a solid April.

Not sure how I missed Ramirez for the RP mentions.

It was nice to see a number of cast offs make the list

Neuhaus, Demi O, Gilbert Lara, J. Nottingham, T. Taylor. All these guys had hype at one point but have falling off. Sadly, the guys who should be on this list all did not have great months. Many had a hot streak that got us excited before falling back down to earth (Ray and Erceg)

It is good to see fallen prospects like Lara and Taylor doing so well. I hope they keep it up. It is also great to see fringe type prospects like Ramirez, Tucker Neuhaus, Joantgel Sergovia, and Thomas Jankins kicking butt. Joantgel is hitting over .400 as of today. If we continue to have these type players perform like they are , there will be lots of optimism in our farm system.
