Biloxi Box Score

Corey Ray hit a dramatic 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th to lead the Biloxi Shuckers to a 3-2 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

The home run would provide a stunning turnaround for the Shuckers, who surrendered a run - and the lead - in the top half of the 9th.

Other game highlights include a Clint Coulter home run, as well as a perfect inning in relief for Corey Knebel in his first rehab appearance. The Biloxi staff held the Jacksonville hitters to six base hits and four walks.

Both teams miss out on opportunities to score. The Shuckers went 0-9 with runners in scoring position. The Jumbo Shrimp went 1-13.

Batting

Corey Ray: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2BB

Jake Gatewood: 1-3, BB

Clint Coulter: 1-4, HR

Pitching

Angel Ventura: 4.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 3BB, 6K

Nick Ramirez: 1.1 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 1BB, 0K

Corey Knebel: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K

Brad Kuntz: 2.0 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 0BB, 3K, Win

Notes

While Corey Ray has been up and down this year, 14 of his 28 hits have been for extra bases (9 doubles, 3 triples, 2 HR).

Stephen Vogt went 1-4 in his second rebab appearance.

Biloxi Log

Corey Ray with the big blow - and the win.

Biloxi Bottom of the 9th

Pitching Change: Marcus Crescentini replaces Jeff Kinley, batting 9th, replacing Mason Davis.

Clint Coulter reaches on a throwing error by shortstop Chris Diaz.

Tyler Heineman pops out to shortstop Chris Diaz in foul territory.

Carolina 7, Myrtle Beach 0

Mudcats End Skid with 7-0 Shutout Victory

Conor Harber and the Carolina pen led the Mudcats to a losing streak snapping victory

cut.JPG

Conor Harber is so frustrating. Here he took 88 pitches to go 4 1/3 innings. He has good stuff but the command is often not there. He started tonight's game with 9 balls in the first 10 pitches. Anyway, the Mudcats still got the win with three relievers finishing the shutout. Mitch Ghelfi at catcher today and managed to get two hits and a stolen base along the way. It's hard to see where he will get at bats with three catchers and Hiura being the steady DH. He should probably go up to Biloxi if they have room.

Conor Harber 4 1/3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K

Daniel Brown 2 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, Win

Keston Hiura 2-5, 2B

Ronnie Gideon 2-5

Tucker Neuhaus 2-4, BB

Mitch Ghelfi 2-5, SB

Rattlers Sink Captains in Eleven Innings

Wisconsin scores an 11-7 win with five runs in the eleventh

Wisconsin Box Score

When you look at the box score, remember that under new extra inning rules, a runner begins the inning at second base, and if that runner scores, the run is unearned for the pitcher.

Joantgel Segovia, back in the lineup for the first time since getting hit in the noggin on April 29th, made up for lost time with three hits, each of them doubles. Segovia has a miniscule career ISO - it was .034 at Wisconsin last year - so it's nice to see the extra bases piling up a bit. He'll never be a big home run threat but he needs those gappers in his toolbox.

Gilbert Lara pushed his hit streak to 7 games with a 2-5 night, including his 3rd long ball of the year. It's been 12 games since he's walked so his early successes with plate discipline have tapered off, but he's still hitting .295 and has an OPS of 799. We'll take it.

That is some amazing work by LHP Cody Beckman to stave off defeat on the road -- man on 3rd, no outs. Wish I heard it live, Chris Mehring must have been psyched!
