2018 Standings and Playoff Race Discussion

The AL has 2 teams that are going to finish in middle ground. 7 teams are at +14 and 6 are at -14. Only Minnesota and the Angels are going to finish with a "average" season. That seems to be stranger than any other occurrence.

And 8 games under for the twins is generous for an average season - especially in that division with royals, tigers and white sox

According to the odds makers, after Saturday, there's a 30% chance the Brewers and Cubs will be tied, a 15% chance the Cubs will clinch the division, and 55% chance we'll head into Sunday where we are now (Cubs 1-game lead).

If the games came down to a coin flip the odds after today are:

25% we are tied

25% we are 2 games back

50% we remain 1 game back

Brewers can't help what the Cubs do at this point, so we'll see how their game ends and then either way the Brewers must take care of what they can control.

Let's be thankful we are not the Rockies.

Imagine this.. Three way tie between dodgers, rockies, and cards. Rockies lost the head-to-head against both the cards and dodgers. Here is a crazy senario that could happen to them:

Sunday: Final game of season at nats

Monday: Divisional tie-breaker at Dodgers

Tuesday: If they lose Monday WC tie-breaker at Cards

Wednesday: If they win Tuesday, WC game at either Cubs or Brewers

Thursday or Friday: If they win Wednesday, Game 1 of NLDS at either Cubs or Brewers

Most likely the NLDS game 1 for them would be Friday, but still they could play in 4 cities in 4 days and 5 cities in 5 or 6 days. In the above senario all games would be on the road. They would not return home until game 3 of the NLDS which would likely be October 8th.

Rockies clinched a berth last night. They are 3 up on the cards so they can not the them, just the Dodgers. Our best case scenario if we tie for division will be either Rockies and dodgers tie too or dodgers fall to a tie with the cards. At least that way whoever we play, assuming we lose, will also have played a do or dieish game on Monday as well.
Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

I find it hysterical that the Cubs think they have endured more this season than the Brewers have. Only 7 teams in baseball had less of an impact by injuries than the Cubs this season. The Astros are the only playoff team impacted less by injury. Yes a couple of a the Cubs injuries were high profile but as a whole their team has been exceptionally healthy.

I will just put this out here randomly. The first time the Brewers made the playoffs since the 1982 season everyone was super pumped up. My friends dad who I watched the first game with had a different opinion though, he said since we got in on the wild card we didn't earn our way into the playoffs and no matter how far we went it really didn't mean anything. These games didn't count in his mind because we didn't win the division.

For all those people posting how they don't count a wild card game loss as making the playoffs, you sound as silly as he did back in the day. Don't cheapen the experience and pretend that the wild card game doesn't matter. No matter what happens from this point on this team had a highly successful season and should be celebrated for it. I hope we go really deep into the playoffs, it would be an awesome experience. But the team has been a success no matter what at this point and yes the wild card game is a playoff just like every other playoff game.

I agree with this take .

We have gotten to a place where we have TWO chances to get to the division round. Not one. But two. How many times does that happen? That takes a special season to have this opporintity.

I’ll be enjoying it , every pitch, every bad play, every good one, because tomorrow, 20 teams went home already and don’t have another game til March, yet we have some things to be decided.

Darn right. Tied for best record in the league. Not too shabby.
