Woodruff optioned to AAA - Brett Phillips recalled

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

Wonder if it's only going to be a one-day thing, or if they are getting fed up with Santana's lack of production, last night 2 RBI double withstanding.

My guess is Phillips goes down tomorrow. Those final guys are racking up the frequent flyer miles!

Would really like to see Woodruff get a prolonged look in the rotation. I'm worried all this shuffling around will hurt his development.

I don't think they bring up Phillips for just 1 day. I bet they want another left-handed bat on the bench. But it will be interesting to see what other move is coming.

If Brett Phillips didn't have a hole in his bat at times, he would be an every day major leaguer already.

You could say that about a big part of the MLB line-up right now. You're right, though.

Oh, there is no doubt about that. He would be up on a lot of other clubs, we just happen to be deep in his position right now. If he played 2B, SS, or C... he'd be up in an instance. But that probably speaks more to the lack of quality players at those positions than really anything else.

Somebody still has to be cleared off the 40 man.....Phillips up and Woodruff down doesnt clear a spot for Miley.

Has to be Drake DFA or Thames to the 60 day......I don't see any other possibility.....does anyone else?

I'm guessing it will be Drake since Suter can handle the lefty specialist chores - and Boone Logan will be back sooner than later. With his reverse splits, he's probably not needed. And let's be honest - who else goes? Option Suter or T. Williams? I hope not.

The other option would be a position player. Cut Sogard perhaps. This leaves the back up SS job to Villar. Or option Santana. That would be drastic, but perhaps some time to clear his head in AAA would help him out. I don't know.

Optioning Santana wouldn’t clear a 40 man though. I doubt they would option him since its only been a month. He had a bad April last year too.

The whole Woodruff thing confuses me. The guy to me can be really good. Just needs better command. His stuff is good. Putting him in the bullpen doesn’t seem like the best way for him to grow.

Or, the team plans to platoon Aguilar at 1st base with Braun. My guess, you'll see Braun at 1st with Phillips in OF vs Righties.

Doubt it, I think Phillips is just a temporary move for an extra bat. And Braun and Aguilar don't match up as platoon partners.

Braun for career better vs Righties than Aguilar, assume Phillips lefty/rhp matchup more favorable than Aguilar vs Rhp. Phillips def >Brauns def in OF Santana on bench til he finds something with his bat.

I assume Phillips stays until Knebel is ready to return, but what about when Logan returns? He's probably worse than anyone else in the bullpen right now.

Assuming no one gets hurt or implodes, Taylor Williams probably gets bumped. Or maybe Suter.

I know the club likes Suter, but with Jennings and Logan they have a pair of lefties right there.

I happy for the depth we have. I like Lopez and Houser for the pen as well. And I really wish Woodruff would just get a chance in the rotation.

It means we won't be overpaying for relievers at the all star break if we are in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Seems to me that they're trying to keep an eye on his innings by mixing in MLB bullpen innings between starts in AAA. I'd bet he's a full-time member of the rotation later in the year (depending on injuries to the other guys/success of Wade Miley or Chacin).
