Jared Hughes was the guy I wanted to keep (and the price would have been reasonable). He's putting up a 1.50 ERA, 1.125 WHIP in 48 innings in Cincy.

That said, the bullpen has been strong so the loss is not that significant.

I agree, I thought he had a fine season last year. But it seemed Counsell didn't trust him as much as the other relievers - so I assume he vote to Stearns was not to resign.

The choice seemed to be either keeping Hughes or Jeffress.

With the caveat that I have no idea if they seriously considered him as part of a trade with the Indians or if there even were any trade discussions with the Indians, but you can add Jason Kipnis to the "discussed potential acquisitions that we're glad didn't happen" list.

.664 OPS with an over $13M salary and over $14M due next year plus a $2.5M buyout for 2020.

Why on earth would we want to give up the farm for this when THIS is what we already have starting for us this season? Still want nothing to do with Chris Archer.

Chris Archer gave up two runs (one earned) in 4 1/3 innings and didn't stick around long enough to get a win in a lopsided thumping of the Twins on Saturday.

The Rays gave him 19 runs of support but Archer couldn't last long enough to qualify for the win. He pitched well but was inefficient, burning 93 pitches in four-plus frames. His record holds at 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 15 starts.

Josh Harrison too who had a lot of fans here for I still have no idea what reason.

Maybe not a dodged bullet in the sense that some of the others were, but Jake Arrieta has struggled down the stretch. I thought this was a good recap of Arrieta’s season from John Stolnis of the Phillies SB Nation site, The Good Phight: Was the Jake Arrieta signing bad for the Phillies?.

Arrieta pitches in a band box (Philadelphia). I'm glad the Brewers didnt sign him but he hasnt been terrible considering where he pitches.

Their defense is bad too.

Cobb has had a really good second half. 3.13 ERA since July, & 2.56 ERA since the All Star break. Looks like he's missed some time this month due to a blister issue. But good to see him right the ship. Maybe the O's have a trade asset heading into the offseason.
