Mudcats Swept in Three Straight in Kinston

Weston Wilson homered for the second straight game, but the Mudcats lost 6-3 in Kinston

cut.jpeg

Trey Supak took a no hitter into the 5th inning but couldn't make it through 6 today. With Nathan Kirby and Braden Webb only able to go 3 innings or less, it really puts some stress on the bullpen. The Mudcats gave up runs in each of the last three innings today. Rob Henry is making a bid (small sample alert) to be the anti-Dubon. Going into today's game, he had an OBP of .455 without the benefit of a hit. He drew 3 more walks today while making one out. Weston Wilson homered today for his 3rd in the last two days.

Trey Supak 5 1/3 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K

Luke Barker 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K (Huh??)

Keston Hiura 2-3, BB

Ronnie Gideon 0-5, 4 K

Weston Wilson 2-4, HR

Rob Henry 0-1, 3 BB

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud -- "The Timber Rattlers closed out the month of April with a 9–5 win over the Peoria Chiefs thanks to some big offense from Zach Clark & Devin Hairston. The Papa John’s Pizza Postgame Podcast features Mehring & Kyle talking about the Rattler victory and getting an update on Joantgel Segovia. Then, the postgame interviews are with Matt Erickson, Clark, & Hairston."

Wisconsin Box Score

Joantgel Segovia was hit in the side of the head with the first pitch of the game. He stayed in to run, was picked off from first, and was replaced by Jay Feliciano. Listen to the podcast linked above - sounds like Segovia will be ok.

Michael Petersen ran his season opening unscored-upon streak to 14 2/3 innings to open the year.

Wisconsin Game Log

Wisconsin Bottom of the 2nd

Gilbert Lara grounds out to pitcher Winston Nicacio.

Zach Clark homers (2) on a fly ball to left center field.

Devin Hairston pops out to second baseman Irving Lopez.

Brent Diaz homers (1) on a fly ball to left field.

Nick Roscetti flies out to left fielder Bryce Denton.

105 MPH exit velocity on that home run, by the way. Absolutely crushed.

SKY SOX WIN RUBBER MATCH AGAINST STORM CHASERS TO TAKE SERIES

By Travis Arnold / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Win or lose, the Sky Sox post their recap title in all caps, sorry about that :ohwell

That being said, as usual, it's a good read, we always learn something out of the norm within their notes section.

Box Score / Game Log

Bubba Derby is just so solid.

Only 24 and in just his 4th pro season, he may unfortunately end up as a mainstay of Brewers' AAA staffs (or up and down with option years) for several seasons to come. Careers are so determined by which organization one is tethered to. If Derby were in the Royals' or Tigers' chain, for instance, he'd be looking at 2018 big league action for sure.

Speaking of tethered to AAA limbo, Kyle Wren is doing Kyle Wren things, and he doesn't hit free agency until after the 2019 season.

1.132 - I'd have a big smile, too, Jacob Nottingham, if I had that OPS, even if after just 43 at-bats. Hit cleanup as the DH here.
