NFL Draft Thread

Perhaps an immensely homer stance, but you'd have to think that if a TE like Fumagali is there at 133 or 138 the Packers would have interest.

Not quick enough. Will really struggle to get open in the pros.

Seems like the type of player that's actual 'football speed' is better than his 40-time.

From his draft profile:

"Has ability to work second level as a pass catcher

Starts route with good acceleration from release

Crafty with route releases"

I'd think his quality blocking skills would complement a non-blocker like Graham very well. I'd have a different opinion if this was the 2nd/3rd, but a late fourth or fifth seems like a reasonable spot for consideration.

I was pretty surprised by the Josh Jackson pick. Really thought the Packers would stick more with speed players. I do think he'll have trouble if locked up man on man against faster receivers. More concerned about his speed and "backpedal, turn and run" times than I am about Alexander's lack of height. Could be that Pettine will play more zone than what is anticipated. Burks definitely fit the athlete profile, but I wonder how he will hold up when the play is coming right for him. But for about the last 10 years the Packers have clearly gotten subpar coverage play out of their inside linebackers so Burks does fill a pretty big need for them in that regard, provided he shows good awareness in his drops.

I pretty much blew it on Alex Cappa, having projected him to Green Bay at pick 172 yesterday only to see that he went off the board at #94. Terrible miss there. Rest of the guys are still in play, although Maddox and Avery are likely no longer possibilities since Green Bay has already drafted two cornerbacks and an inside linebacker. So here are my updated day three projections:

4-133 = Cole Madison/OT/Washington State

5-138 = Godwin Igwebuike/S/Northwestern

5-172 = Ade Aruna/OLB/Tulane

5-174 = Marquez Valdes-Scantling/WR/South Florida

6-207 = Jordan Thomas/TE/Mississippi State

7-232 = Nick Gates/OT/Nebraska

7-239 = Jester Weah/WR/Pittsburgh

7-248 = Jamiyus Pittman/DT/Central Florida

With all the picks the Packers have, why not take a shot on Maurice Hurst?

Don't really know how he fits. I guess Mo Wilkerson is on short term deal but he is a 4-3 interior guy. Unless you are replacing Mike Daniels who also fits much better in a 4-3, I don't know where he plays.

3-4 Sized guys

Lowry 6'6 300

Wilkerson 6'4 315

Adams 6'4 305

Clark 6'3 315

Daniels 6'0 310

Hurst is 6'1 290, I much rather they go for a real NT sized guy like T. Settle at 6'3 335. Regardless I love Hurst but his size isn't very appealing with scheme. He'd have to fight with Clark who is a rising star for inside reps in sub packages. No way he replace Daniels in that role.

Yep. I'd expect Leon Jacobs and Natrel Jamerson to get drafted at some point as well. EDIT: forgot about Dooley, thanks for the reminder!

The board is actually looking interesting for the Packers at ~10 away. The current run on TEs and DBs has left a lot of the Edge guys there, along with a couple of interesting receivers in St. Brown and Cain.

Natrell Jamerson has good shot of going in 6th or 7th

Conner Sheeny at 6'5 300 could be a Dean Lowry 3-4 DE in 7th round

Leon Jacobs is an absolute freak athlete but doesn't have true position in NFL, could see if drafted based on athletic talent that is matched with production. You draft him hoping he can play inside. I'd say 6th or 7th

Alec James will probably go Undrafted

Also forgot about Dooley, he has a shot to sneak into draft

You draft Leon jacobs in 6th and you get an immediate special teams stud with potential.

Everything I've read this morning suggests that Sweat will be one of the first players off the board today. If we're interested in a guy like him, we probably have to move up somehow.

Clearly wrong on that... medicals must be pretty bad. It'll be interesting to see if they're interested at all here.

EDIT: Nevermind..... off to Philly.

COLUMBIA

J’Mon Moore claims that his worst performance at the NFL scouting combine happened because of a misunderstanding.

The former Missouri wide receiver said he did not know where the start line was for the 40-yard dash, so he ran farther than he had to, and his time of 4.6 seconds was slower than he hoped. It ranked 32nd out of 37 receivers at the combine.

“I got texts for days,” said Moore, who did finish third in bench press and fourth in vertical jump for receivers at the combine. “I just messed up.”

So the 6-foot-3 Moore, who led Mizzou with more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past two seasons, came into the Tigers’ pro day on Thursday knowing he had to rectify that disappointing 40-yard dash time — and he did. He recorded a 4.48 second performance.

Strong, can leap, not blazing speed but plays faster. I think Adams is good comp. Hands aren't as great as Adams coming out (caught everything in college).

Wouldn't have expected the Moore pick. The 40 time is 4.60 is which is a concern when coming off a year where the play speed of the receivers was the slowest in the NFL. But Moore was very productive in college. Back-to-back 1000+ yard seasons with 8 TDs in 2016 and 10 TDs in 2017. And that's in the SEC, not a conference like the Big 12 where the defense forgets to get off the bus each and every week. The agility numbers were outstanding, 4.04 in the short shuttle (2nd best at combine among WRs) and 6.56 in the 3-cone (tied for best at the combine among WRs). Interesting pick. I figured the Packers would take two receivers in this draft, if they do it will be interesting to see who they add with Moore already in the fold.

Ran 4.49 at pro day. Lots of reports that he ran further than 40 yards at the combine, adding time.

The 40 time is one of the most misused stats in Football. Looking at his film he consistently got separation from DBs and when he caught the ball he outran them. Nice Selection.

If used alone, I agree. If used with 3-cone and shuttle, I think the three stats give a good profile of a players speed/agility.

Jordy had a 4.5 -40 yd dash, but mediocre 3-cone (7.03) and shuttle speeds (4.35). He always did need a bit of time to get going, but out ran many people when he did.

Adams had a 4.6, but better 3-cone (6.82) and shuttle (4.3) speeds. He doesn't outrun people so much, but does it more on routes.

Nice to hear Moore had 4.5 -40 at his pro day, because his 3-cone (6.56) and shuttle (4.05) are crazy good. Time to work on those hands...

Cole Madison a usual G/T Swing for Packers, Great man bun and beard.

"Madison's athletic ability, foot quickness and ability to sustain blocks on the move make him a desirable target for teams who want offensive linemen who can excel in space. However, his lack of anchor in pass protection will likely be targeted by pass rushers looking to for holes to exploit. A move inside to guard could benefit Madison, if he can add strength and play with better knee bend."

Now with Sweat gone, dont see many impact EDGE guys. Still for Time Settle to add true NT inside and increase depth there

I like the Cole Madison pick. College right tackle that probably swings between right tackle and right guard. Considering the Packers need help in both areas, it seems like a real logical pick to me. Do have some worries about him playing in a spread offense in college. I don't have any numbers to back it up but there have been reports that offensive lineman from spread offenses have a much higher bust rate. But that may just be because there have been some high profile ones (like Greg Robinson) that turned out really bad.

Well so far the Packers haven’t had that draft selection that has me scratching my head.
