2018-04-21: Marlins (Urena) at Brewers (Suter) 6:10 PM CDT [Brewers win, 6-5]

I hate to be "that guy", but Aguilar should be seeing more playing time. But so should Thames. And Braun.

A good problem to have, and I guess the injuries have helped sort things out. I guess it's just weird having depth.

Don’t fight the depth. Embrace it.

I'm starting to come around. It's been tough to give up my Nick Franklin security blanket, though.

Well, that was a game the Brewers had no business winning. Feels good to steal one once in a while. That's what good teams can do.

False, the final score says otherwise.

That was awesome, however, I am not looking forward to tomorrow's Sunday line-up, when we have a chance to sweep...

Day off on Monday, doubt you'll see anything too crazy. Nottingham will start I think.

Lefty on the mound so Aguilar or Braun at 1st. Santana or Braun starting in the OF. Probably Perez at SS so Arcia gets 3 straight days off with the ankle. That's about all I would expect.

Eh. When it was 5 - 3 in the 5th inning, I was feeling alright. With our bullpen, I was confident we weren't giving up more than maybe one more run, and I feel pretty good about the offense right now. They're heating up.

Not only closed the gap, but also got the pitch count up. The sooner we get into the Marlins crappy pen the better.

When does the last part of this happen?

Hopefully in the 8th because I'm not going to like who's up in the 9th.

There it is!

Suter's obviously slumping.

I'm not ready to discard him - he does have options, and maybe he can turn it around. But if he can't get it together against the Cubs, it may be time to move him to the pen.

He shouldn't start against the Cubs. Full stop.

I really like Suter, but I agree. I'd rather see Woodruff take that start.

In other years without having our depth I could understand Suter continuing on but not when he has options and/or can be shifted to the pen with quality pitchers waiting at AAA.

Prior to this year, he was a Cub-killer in the midst of a pennant race. Much depends on how good Miley may or may not be.

In any case, Suter could still be a bullpen option.

Depending on Wade Miley to be anything is a scary proposition. I know he was good in spring training, but he's still Wade Miley.

Kinda seeming more likely that we trade Aguilar for some pitching at the deadline over Santana.

I’d probably let May and June play itself out.

It doesn't have anything to do with Miley. It has to do with Suter being bad. I'd rather see Woodruff take his lumps than watch Suter get smashed all over the park one more time. If it was a throw away season, sure, let him start. It's not.

Would be pretty rare for a contending team to trade contributing ML pieces during the season. But this roster makeup is pretty rare as well, so who knows? Buckle up!

It’d be pretty great if we didn’t have to trade for pitching at all. Obviously that would take performance from those currently as well as get some luck with Nelson coming back and/or one or more of our young guys being the real deal.

Honest question - is there any other mlb contender that potentially has what the brewers do on their way to the big league club pitching wise in the high minors (burnes, woodruff, peralta) and rehabbing from injury (nelson, knebel) that can be simple internal additions once they are healthy? I'm not even mentioning all the other arms down there that appear to be mlb-caliber in relief/spot start roles. At the time a guy like houser was considered the better pitcher the brewers got in that gomez trade over hader....

It's kind of silly the amount of pitching depth the brewers have right now that can at the minimum be effective mlb contributors - without even thinking about trade possibilities. If there is a true frontline starter available at the deadline (which I still think is a hole they need to fill if there is legit motivation to contend in the playoffs), the brewers will have the ammo to go out and get him and probably not miss a beat in terms of controllable pitching depth

Why does everyone leave Ortiz off the list? Anyway, I'd say no but the Brewers have to because most of the other legit contenders are big money teams and can go get whatever they need.

Left off Ortiz because he's one step behind the others in terms of development...and at some point I had to cut off a novel of a post in a game thread when listing pitchers with potential in the organization...it's throughout the systen more so than I can ever remember - I'm as high on Ortiz as anyone, just that he needs more innings and time to be ready for a big league callup.
