Can someone a little more familiar with Freddy Peralta elaborate on how he is such a strikeout machine working in the high 80s-low 90s? I also see conflicting reports on his velocity with some saying he can touch the mid 90s.

He's always been a nice lottery ticket arm but he's become more than that and something really seems to have "clicked" with him since the middle of last year. He's approaching Corbin Burnes territory.

Peralta has extraordinary extension on his delivery, which shortens the ball's path to the plate and the time the batter has to react. So while he usually does sit 88-91, it appears much faster to the hitter. He also has a weird lower arm slot, arms and legs delivery that throws off batters, especially righties. He's also adept at changing speeds on all three of his pitches intentionally and likes to move everything around the zone. He's a good sequencer. He has a good slider. When he's commanding, he's pretty much unhittable against right handed batters and with his improving changeup, he's getting there against lefties as well.

Now the command part is going to determine whether he can remain a starter or not, as will the continued development of his changeup. I was a little iffy on him last season but have completely bought in after watching his starts this year and the command progress he's made. To me, he's arguably a better pitching prospect than Corbin Burnes right now.

Good stuff. Definitely exciting to read and a lot to be excited about for the pitching department right now. Thanks. I would say Peralta has to be one of our top two prospects named Peralta this last decade. :)

Freddy Peralta struggled tonight with his command and baserunners. And he still gave up only 1 run in 5 innings with 7 K's. Nice to see him still be able to put in a solid outing on a night where he clearly wasn't at his best.

Mudcats Held To Just Three Hits in 8-2 Loss to Astros

Reliever Conor Harber struck out seven over 3.0 innings in Friday's loss

Dominated again. The Mudcats were just 7-16 against the Astros last year and it could be worse this year. It shows the contrast in the two organizations. Braden Webb threw 83 pitches but couldn't get out of the 3rd inning. Six more stolen bases after six yesterday. Webb didn't even look at the runner a couple of times. 12 more strike outs for the hitters today to increase their league lead.

Braden Webb 2 1/3 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K

Conor Harber 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 7 K

Nick Franklin made his 2nd start of the season behind the plate for the Shuckers Friday. Franklin is 1-for-3 throwing out baserunners in the two games, had one passed ball last night. He has started games at C, 1B, 2B, and RF already in 2018.

Box Score / Game Log

Scheduled night off for Keon Broxton and Brett Phillips as Rick Sweet mentioned at the link above; geez, Christian Bethancourt is only 26 years old (.897 OPS). Given the current makeup of the Sky Sox staff, RHP Jorge Lopez a nice fit as closer.

Catcher Tyler Heineman started three games in three days, Tuesday in AA at Mobile, Wednesday in AAA at New Orleans, Thursday in AA back in Mobile.

As mentioned in the Sky Sox audio interview, Mobile and New Orleans are just 90 minutes apart via car, thus the odd set of transactions made some sense.

Report out of New Orleans on why their manager was ejected --

Colorado Springs scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning with the aid of a controversial play on its way to winning the series with the New Orleans Baby Cakes with a 3-2 victory Friday.

Sky Sox center fielder Johnny Davis hit the ball off his foot while in the batter's box, which is a foul. However, it was ruled a base hit. New Orleans manager Arnie Beyeler was ejected for vehemently protesting the call. The hit was Davis' first in 13 at-bats this season.

“They scored a run in that inning, so it's a one-run ballgame,” Beyeler said. “That impacted that inning. They missed the call.”

Davis was caught in a run down for the second out. However, Andres Blanco, who's chopper to third base set up the run down, reached on the fielder's choice. The next batter, shortstop Mauricio Dubon drove in Blanco with a single to center field and a 2-1 lead. Dubon had homered in the fourth, tying the score 1-1.

Right fielder Nate Orf singled in Christian Bethancourt in the sixth for a two-run advantage.

Nice when a road photo gallery features more Sky Sox than the hosts.

Under the radar move of the winter so far could be the acquisition of Jake Hager. Seems every other day, he's got multiple hits. Already has 8 extra base hits in

39 AB's. I get he was a disappointment in the Rays system after being 32nd overall selection in the 2011 draft, but he just turned 25 so he's not ancient. Maybe he just needed a fresh start. I saw him hit a bomb in a Brewer game in Arizona, and my thought was "who's this guy?" as I didn't find him in the media guide.
