Any Ricky News at all?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to say that Rickie Weeks will be signed by the end of the month. I have NO inside information or anything, this is just a guess. So, he'll probably get 100-150 ABs during the month of August with the Snappers, and possibly will get bumped up AA to join the Stars in the playoffs.

I think 20 first rounders have signed...but the ones who have not are telling...picks 1-4 remain unsigned, along with the two top HS pitchers (Danks and Allison) and prep OF Lastings Milledge. I would guess these are the guys who pose the biggest challenges to Uncle Bud's bonus slotting system...certainly they are the type of players that often go for considerably more, with high profiles and lots of leverage.

Also two college pitchers, Maholm and Sullivan are still unsigned...which may not do much for my theory.

Many (7 out of 10) of the unsigned 2nd rounders are HS kids...including brewerfan favorites like Sweeney, Flaig, Tiffany, plus Andrew Miller at the top of the 3rd. It just might be harder this year to go over slot money to sign a guy who slips to a position he didn't expect.

Meanwhile, in a stunning development, former Brewer pick and Boras pawn Steven White has yet to sign with the Yanks.

JP said during the game tonight that Rickie Weeks crew and the Brewers have agreed to not publicize any information related to contract negotiations. Melvin had mentioned to JP that he and Weeks' agent are having "regular conversation".

Morale of the story: Don't expect to much information on Weeks, is my understanding.

Wouldn't JP making that statement violate the agreement not to publicize any information related to contract negotiations? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

JS had a short note about the lack of progress.

Quote:
The Brewers are getting nowhere in negotiations with first-round draft pick Rickie Weeks, the second overall selection. Apparently, Weeks and agent Lon Babby are waiting to see what happens with No. 1 pick Delmon Young, selected by Tampa Bay.

"There's nothing really going on," Melvin said. "We talked on the telephone the other day, but there's nothing of a serious nature happening. We're just trying to stay in touch."
