I'm quickly becoming very intrigued by Francis. On a staff that isn't filled with touted prospects, he's becoming one to watch.

Since being drafted it has seemed Brewers have been high on Francis, can see why with his start! Supek on tonight, Ortiz been great outside of 1 mistake, Derby overall good day.

Pitching off to most exciting start that I can remember! Ton of depth growing in this system. Frontline guys? Maybe not majority but just real nice arms!

Our next rankings will be interesting if all this continues!

Final: Mobile 4, Biloxi 3

Biloxi Falls In First Extra Innings Contest 4-3

Ortiz Strikes Out 10 in Shuckers Loss

By Garrett Greene

cut.JPG

Biloxi Box Score

Biloxi surrendered three unearned runs on Tuesday night, which contributed mightily to a 4-3 lose to Mobile in extra innings. Despite the lose, the Shuckers got an outstanding performance from Luis Ortiz, who struck out 10 in 6.1 innings of relief (Wade Miley started the game, but only went 2.2 innings). Ortiz's one blemish was a surrendering a solo HR in the 6th - which tied the game. Biloxi would lose in the 10th.

At the plate, Jake Gatewood, Corey Ray and Troy Stokes Jr. would get on base nine times between the three - highlighted by a 2-run HR from Gatewood.

Batting

Corey Ray: 2-5, 2B, 2 SB

Troy Stokes Jr.: 1-2, 3BB

Jake Gatewood: 2-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB

Pitching

Wade Miley: 2.2 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 2K

Luis Ortiz: 6.1 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 3BB, 10K, Lose

Notes

The 2018 season has been a difficult one for Jake Gatewood, but he had a nice evening on Tuesday, hitting his second HR on two hits and drawing a walk. He is hitting .108 for the year.

Corey Ray continues to hit. He now leads the Southern League (or is tied for the lead) in the following categories: runs, hits, doubles, triples, and stolen bases.

Biloxi Log

Biloxi struck in the opening frame with a two-run HR from Jake Gatewood. However, the Shuckers did themselves no favors by committing an error that led to a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning.

Our next rankings will be interesting if all this continues!

I know it's early, but I'll take nine starters with 1.20 WHIP or below and a 10th (Burnes) who is close enough to be included with a CS discount. And of those nine, I think only Woodruff isn't averaging at least 8 K/9.

And back on the topic of Francis, that 0 under walks for the season looks nice, too.

Question for anyone who knows... In extra innings, do they always start the inning with a man on second base? I noticed this in the Biloxi game log. Both teams had an at bat in the 10th and both teams started the inning with a runner placed on second base.

Final: New Orleans 4, Colorado Springs 2

Summary on this road game from the Baby Cakes --

Cristhian Adames broke an eighth-inning tie with a two-run triple, and the New Orleans Baby Cakes snapped a seven-game losing streak by defeating the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 4-2 on Tuesday night.

Braxton Lee reached on a bunt single leading off the eighth, then beat out the throw to second on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Magneuris Sierra to put two on for Adames, whose sinking liner to center snuck past a diving Keon Broxton and allowed both runners to score. Jonathan Rodriguez followed with a grounder to score Adames with an insurance run.

Severino Gonzalez gave up a two-out solo home run to Tyrone Taylor in the ninth before securing his first save of the year and ending the New Orleans skid. The Baby Cakes have won five straight games at home.

Johnny Giavotella's second-inning RBI double had been enough for the 'Cakes to carry the lead through most of the night. Giavotella, the former Jesuit High School and University of New Orleans standout, drove in Rafael Ortega, who had walked and swiped second base with one out.

Sandy Alcantara turned in his first quality start at Triple-A by blanking the Sky Sox into the sixth inning. A lengthy at-bat with Brett Phillips ended in a two-out walk, and singles by Christian Bethancourt and Ji-Man Choi produced the tying run for Colorado Springs.

Alcantara surrendered one run and four hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Turner (1-0), making his first appearance for New Orleans since 2013, pitched two innings of scoreless relief and earned the victory.

Giavotella's double was the only hit allowed by Sky Sox starter Bubba Derby in five innings. Radhames Liz (1-1) was charged with three runs on two hits and suffered the loss.

The homestand continues on Wednesday with the second game of the four-game set against Colorado Springs. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM Central.

Final: Kane County 5, Wisconsin 4

Rattlers Drop 5-4 Decision to Kane County

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Box Score

Rattlers lose their fourth game in a row, each by one run. It looked like the game was pretty much in hand going into the late innings thanks to a dominant start from Bowden Francis, but Kane County scored 2 in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th off of Matthew Hardy and Carlos Herrera to sink the team.

Pat McInerney was the offensive hero again, hitting home run numbers 3 and 4 on the young season. Joantgel Segovia put his batting average back over .400 with two singles and he stole his 7th base in as many attempts as well.

Excellent starts for Bowden, Bowdien, and Trey, and outstanding "relief" appearance by Luis.

Ray with another multi-hit game with an XBH.

As good as Ray has been (1.054 OPS), Troy Stokes Jr. has been keeping up with him (1.094 OPS)

Stokes full slash: 341/509/585. It's early, but those numbers are getting really hard to ignore
