Biloxi Game Log

Biloxi starter Adrian Houser started with a rough first inning, surrendering 2 earned runs via a leadoff walk and 2 Braves singles. Houser rebounded nicely in the 2nd inducing a groundout and 2 swinging Ks to end his evening. Shuckers got a run back in the bottom of the 2nd inning after a Blake Allemand leadoff double. Kodi Medieros came on in relief and had a rough 3rd inning with 3 walks (1 intentional) and a double, surrendering 1 run. Medieros settled in to cruise through the next 4 innings, allowing only 1 single.

The game remained 3-1 until Biloxi's big 8th inning:

Winston-Salem 8, Carolina 1

Mudcats Drop Second Straight, 8-1 in Winston-Salem

Clint Coulter went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss for the Mudcats

cut.jpeg

Nathan Kirby started and took the loss. He pitched in some hard luck though. He gave up three hits, one of which was a soft grounder just under his own glove and between Neuhaus and Aviles. The other two were of the Baltimore chop variety. One of his walks occurred after Ronnie Gideon whiffed on a foul pop-up next to first base. I think he was taken out due to pitch count.

Nathan Kirby 1 2/3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Victor Diaz 2 1/3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Luke Barker 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Clint Coulter managed to get two of the Mudcats' three hits. Luis Aviles added a single and a walk.

Clint Coulter 2-4, HR

Luis Aviles 1-2, BB

Keston Hiura 0-4, 2 K

Interesting to note that Lara played SS and Garcia played 3B. I would love to see them try to develop Garcia at 3B.

It would also be a wonderful thing if at least two of Lara, Ray, Medeiros, and Grisham could break out this year and look like they could become solid major leaguers.

Rattlers Get Slammed in Peoria

Box Score / Game Log

RHP Nelson Hernandez is similar to older (and coming off Tommy John) RHP Jorge Ortega, not sure if his positive control game -- only 44 walks in 240.1 pro innings) will translate to limited base hits eventually.

Sort the Wisconsin stats by OPS (it will be nice when we can dismiss "small sample size"), and you'll see half the roster is clicking, and the other is bone dry.

Demi off to a nice start along with Lara. He is another guy who can really drive stock back up. Garcia & Lutz won’t be this bad forever.... rough first week for them

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

It's nice to see Clark getting off to a good start, even if is is just a few at-bats. He is one of two guys on that Wisconsin roster (with the other being Francis) who I could see going from no votes in the preseason prospect poll to legitimate Top 25 contender with a good first half. He's kind of in the same boat as Orimoloye, in that man, if everything starts to click ...
