Roeg was just off my watch list due to start length. Really nice start for him too. Basically Ponce and Ortiz looked meh. The rest have been real sharp.

Depth is going to get real interesting if Erceg stays locked in, Dubon hits enough and we already have phillips waiting for a spot to open.

Final: Biloxi 5, Montgomery 3

Biloxi Box Score

Biloxi managed five runs despite having only five hits (and four walk) in a 5-3 victory of Montgomery. The Shuckers clustered their hits in the third inning, including back-to-back doubles by Corey Ray and Lucas Erceg, leading to five runs.

On the mound, Cody Ponce was pitching okay (not great - just okay) until the fifth when he gave up three hits. He threw a lot of pitches and had uneven results. Thankfully, the bullpen (Nick Ramirez, Angel Ventura and Quintin Torres-Costa) shutdown the Biscuits over the last 4.1 innings to nail down the victory.

Batting

Lucas Erceg: 1-4, 2B, 3 RBI

Jake Hager: 1-3, BB

Dustin Houle: 2-2, BB

Pitching

Cody Ponce: 4.2 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 3BB, 5K

Nick Ramirez: 2.1 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1BB, Win

Angel Ventura: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 1K

Quintin Torres-Costa: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 2K, Save

Nice to see Roegner's great start. Rare I get to cheer for someone from my alma mater. Go BU!

Hopefully Webb can make it 5-for-5 on nice starts from the 2016 college pitching group. Combined Burnes, Z. Brown, Jankins and Roegner have a 1.29 ERA (they are a Zack Brown balk away from having a combined ERA below 1), .96 WHIP, 9.38 K/9, and 6.25 K/BB. Obviously it is just one start each, but that's the way to start a season.

Roegner Leads Mudcats to 5-0 Shutout Win

Cam Roegner struck out six over six quality innings while leading the Mudcats to their third straight win

cut.jpeg

Cam Roegner went 6 strong innings and the bullpen finished off the shutout. The first three innings he was just painting the corners with his fastball. He had a few problems in the rest of the outing but got through it in the end. Miguel Sanchez went the next two innings and looked good. If you haven't seen him, he has a running fastball with some sink to it that moves quite a bit. He also throws a curve, cutter and changeup. I think maybe a slider as well. A lot of movement on all his pitches.

Cam Roegner 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K

Miguel Sanchez 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Chase Williams 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Ronnie Gideon had one single but it hit 3 or 4 feet from a home run off the wall in left. He had to hold at first when the carom went straight to the left fielder. The big buzz in the twitterverse was the new walk-up song for Clint Coulter called WalMart yodeling or something. Maybe some of you know what that means.

Dallas Carroll 3-5, 2B

Tucker Neuhaus 1-5, 5 game hitting streak

Luis Aviles 1-4, 2 RBI, 2 SB

Max McDowell 2-3

Ryan Aguilar 1-2, 2 RBI

Wisconsin Box Score

Jay Feliciano and Payton Henry lead the Rattlers to a big victory over the LumberKings and evened the team's record at 2-2. The two combined for 7 hits, 3 doubles, a home run, 5 runs scored and 5 RBI. Add in Nick Roscetti and the bottom third of the order went 9-13.

2017 21st rounder Dylan File made his full season debut and pitched really well.

Wisconsin Game Log

Lots of action to check out.
