Link Report for Friday 4/6

Welcome back, for 2018!

For consolidation (and my own sanity), the opening sequence of each Link Report going forward is going to be cut down significantly. Darn, no more weather reports! (Example from last August of what I had been doing for years).

However, all the same info will still be provided in the opening post, just with a cleaner way to maneuver, and much easier for yours truly for the next five and a half months.

I will rely on the daily organizational schedule posted by MiLB.com. It is at that link where you get your starting pitchers, game times (keep in mind the time zone listed for each game, as in the past, I had converted everything to Central Time for you). You will also find your MiLB.TV links (subscription strongly suggested) via that scoreboard page, and of course the box scores and game logs once games are underway.

I am aware that the listed starting pitchers on the MiLB.com page can be unreliable (not the pitchers themselves of course, the listings). I will add an extra post if I know from other sources who the "TBD" is, or if a listed pitcher is incorrect. But I will also rely on you, our posters, to update us within the Link Report. You will be providing the update more often than I will, including tonight!

Feel free to indicate any postponement updates as well. Thanks in advance.

Once games go final, we hope to still provide you on a daily basis, a post for each game that includes final score and links to the affiliate-provided game summaries. Then, in the early morning hours, where we really earn our generous salaries, look for newspaper and TV news reports and other info that came out while you were sleeping. As always, our hope is you can get your entire overnight fix during breakfast.

Thanks as we begin our 18th season of doing this, it has certainly evolved over time.

The text above will appear in each Link Report through this Sunday 4/8, then will be removed as we all get used to the new lean format.

Only the Mudcats and Shuckers play tonight --

Via Chris Mehring:

BELOIT, WI - Friday night's Midwest League game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field has been postponed. Cold and windy weather in the afternoon with a forecast for more of the same for the scheduled 6:30 PM start time forced the postponement.

The teams will make up the game on Tuesday, May 15 as part of a doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. There will be two seven-inning games on that date. Game one is scheduled to start at 12:05 PM. Game two will be played approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Wisconsin and Beloit are set to recommence their opening series of 2018 on Saturday afternoon in the Fox Cities. Game time for the Timber Rattlers Home Opener is 4:05 PM.

Every fan to attend the 2018 Home Opener will receive a bobblehead of Ryan Braun, who had a rehabilitation assignment with the Rattlers last season. This bobblehead of Braun features the Brewers slugger wearing a Timber Rattlers home jersey, courtesy of Pepsi and Asphalt Seal and Repair. After the game, children 12 and under may run the bases courtesy of Meijer as part of a North Shore Bank Family Day with WIXX.

Solid if not terribly efficient first AA start for Brown (who weirdly got called for twice as many balks in this game as first first two seasons combined). Nice to see the K/BB ratio.

Also nice to see the three Ks from Ramirez. That was really the one part of his stat line last year that was lacking.

Winston-Salem 6, Carolina 3

Dash Drop Mudcats 6-3 on Friday Night

Tucker Neuhaus went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the loss

cut.jpeg

The Mudcats' 18 game home winning streak against the Dash came to an end in an ugly 7th inning meltdown. Daniel Brown (1 1/3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K) took the loss in relief. Leading 3-0 going into the 7th:

Winston-Salem Top of the 7th

Zach Remillard walks.

Joel Booker singles on a bunt ground ball to first baseman Ronnie Gideon. Zach Remillard to 2nd.

Luis Alexander Basabe reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Dallas Carroll. Zach Remillard to 3rd. Joel Booker to 2nd.

Blake Rutherford grounds into a force out, first baseman Ronnie Gideon to shortstop Luis Aviles Jr. Zach Remillard scores. Joel Booker to 3rd. Luis Alexander Basabe out at 2nd. Blake Rutherford to 1st.

Gavin Sheets doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Carlos Belonis. Joel Booker scores. Blake Rutherford to 3rd.

Pitching Change: Alec Kenilvort replaces Daniel Brown.

Micker Adolfo doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Cooper Hummel. Blake Rutherford scores. Gavin Sheets scores.

Yeyson Yrizarri homers (1) on a fly ball to left field. Micker Adolfo scores.

Ti'Quan Forbes grounds out, second baseman Tucker Neuhaus to first baseman Ronnie Gideon.

Nate Nolan strikes out swinging, catcher Max McDowell to first baseman Ronnie Gideon.

Both of those doubles were balls that probably should have been caught. The second and third hitters reached after laying down sacrifice bunts. Alec Kenilvort (1 2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K) followed Brown and gave up much of the damage in the 7th.

Trey Supak (5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K) was the starter and got a no decision.

Tucker Neuhaus (3-4, HR, 3 RBI) was the only left handed hitter against southpaw Bernardo Flores but did the most damage. Clint Coulter had a triple in 4 at bats. Luis Aviles and Ronnie Gideon added a double each.
