Rickie Weeks is one of the three finalists for the Rotary Smith Award recognizing the outstanding collegiate baseball player of the year. Previous finalists include Lance Berkman and J.D. Drew. Winners include Jason Jennings and Mark Prior. Pretty good company.

 

The other two finalists are Jeff Niemann from Rice, who is looking impressive in the CWS, and Billy Becher from New Mexico State, who led the NCAA in HRs and RBIs but was only a 14th round draft choice. It's probably a close race between Weeks and Niemann. For more info www.smithaward.com.
