The hinted-at promotion of RHP Marcos Diplan to Biloxi from Carolina becomes official. RHP Victor Diaz came off the Mudcats Temp Inactive List to pitch Saturday.

Also, Maryvale RHP Peter Strzelecki, the 23-year-old non-drafted free agent out of a Florida community college, escapes the desert after two appearances, joins Helena.

OF Quintin Berry moved from the Helena to the Colorado Springs roster. As we heard in recent Sky Sox audio, Berry has ben more of a AAA first base and baserunning coach over the past month.

This may be a brief activation, Domingo Santana will formally be on the Colorado Springs roster soon.

Berry had been the last of the full season veteran players to still be holding a spot on the Helena paper roster.

From April 30th --

Tweets with photos regarding the latest international signee --

RHP Wilber Diaz

With his pitching coach

Diaz has officially been placed on the DSL Brewers squad (non-Indians team).

We learn he is a 6'3", 170 lb. Venezuelan RHP, turns 18 in August.

***

Joining Diaz on the same DSL team is fellow Venezuelan RHP 6'1", 160 lb. Alis Atagua, who we had mentioned signed in May. Atagua won't turn 18 until March.

***

The DSL Brewers/Indians are now 5-14, and even after a 4-1 win, the team ERA is 7.19.

But don't blame many Brewers pitchers, as the Indians make up a majority of the staff.

For Milwaukee, 17-year-old RHP Kleiber Bordones has made three excellent starts (1.93 ERA).

RHP's Ricardo Velasquez and Wellington Nunez have combined for a 2.03 ERA in nine relief outings.

RHP Moises Ruiz sits at a solid 4.11 after five appearances (four starts).

Team Stats

That quoted post is from Saturday's Link Report.

RHP Wellington Nunez actually was moved to the co-op Indians squad for Saturday's game. His prior three appearances had been for the DSL Brewers full squad.

The reasons for the DSL roster additions mentioned above is that (at least) two of the players from the Dominican rosters have been transferred stateside and are now playing for the AZL Brewers.

RHP Johan Dominguez, a 22-year-old in his third pro season was transferred to Maryvale from the main DSL roster.

SS Luis Avila, a 19-year-old also in his third year with the organization, was transferred from the DSL co-op roster to Maryvale.

And yes, that means Luis Avila and Luis Avalo are on the same roster again - exciting!

17-year-old OF Starling Javier is a Dominican native listed at a nice 6'2", 172 - he's the rare position player RH bat and LH arm. He's been assigned to the DSL Brewers non co-op squad.

According to today's box score it appears the Brewers are going to use Starling Javier as a pitcher and not an OF as was originally announced. We'll see if that was a box score error or not.

Soon-to-be 21-year-old Puerto Rico native Bryan Torres (primarily a catcher, but has found minimal time in the outfield, the corner infield spots, and even second base) spent the past three seasons in the Dominican Summer League.

After just two games in Maryvale, Torres, a left-handed bat, was promoted to Helena on Monday.

Brewers doing him a favor

I asked #Brewers GM David Stearns about releasing Kyle Wren: "At this point, it was worth giving Kyle a chance to go to another organization and continue his career. He's done a great job for us and been a good teammate. We certainly wish him well."

The reason Dustin Houle was sent to Carolina is that Mario Feliciano was put on the DL. He suffered an injury on a play at the plate a few games ago. They just needed another catcher at Carolina.

Perfect opportunity to call him up now, instead we call up a guy who can't hit at CS.

What numbers are you looking at? Wren AAA OPS: 761, Broxton: 767. For reference Phillips OPS is 763

Wren has a higher BA and OBP but little power, especially considering he plays at CS. He is a singles only hitter. It would have been nice to see him get a shot but to call Broxton a guy who cant hit compared to Wren is odd.

Stearns probably had a coin flip between Broxton and Phillips but I doubt Wren was even in the discussion which is why he was released.

Wren puts the ball in play. Broxton is fanning at and alarming rate and it's not like he has Joey Gallo type power. Stearns apparently is fine with leaving runners stranded at 3rd with less than 2 outs.

This is more what Im referring to. Not a bad idea to have a mix of contact hitters and high power high k guys at the major league level.

With all the complaints of inconsistant offense you see on the major league forum, you'd think more people would want to see guys like Wren and Orf get a shot. Its not like this is a good offensive team currently. They win because pitching and defense carries them.

From Brewers PD

We've signed C Mike Alescio out of Seton Hall University and assigned him to the AZL Brewers. Also, Quintin Torres-Costa has been bumped up to Colorado Springs.

Shuckers Press Release provides the moves beyond Torres-Costa--

In a move announced by the Milwaukee Brewers, LHP Quintin Torres-Costa has been promoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

A Southern League Mid-Season All-Star this year, Torres-Costa will report to the Sky Sox to make his debut at the Triple-A level. The lefty pitched to a 1.16 ERA in 21 relief appearances for the Shuckers, striking out 44 batters over 31 innings while holding opponents to a .160 batting average.

The Shuckers have also placed RHP Miguel Sanchez on the disabled list. In a pair of corresponding moves, LHP Brad Kuntz and RHP Josh Uhen have been activated from the temporarily inactive and disabled lists, respectively.

Uhen had been placed on the DL June 1st.

17-year-old RHP Starling Javier was transferred from the DSL Brewers to the co-op Indians squad. Javier has made only one appearance thus far, his pro debut on the 25th.

Fellow pro rookie RHP Wellington Nunez, just signed at the beginning of this month, returns to the DSL Brewers from the co-op squad. So he's gone from one club to the other twice now.
